Hi
ok i have had random reset problems with my ppc which i have only owned for just over a week.
The reset usualy happens while i'm playing mp via amigaamp/warpup.
This happens every single time without fail, its not if it will happen it's when.
Sometimes it might be seconds of using amigamp other times it could be longer.
Now i have put a fan against the cpu and nothing has changed so far.
i have read that 1D4 boards cause the most probs with the PPC,what are the symptoms??Random resets? Not booting with a CDRW drive?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

My rev 1D4 mobo never had any issues with BPPC + BVisionPPC. The setup also had PCMCIA network card, selfmade IDEFix hardware, IDE CD-RW, IDE and SCSI HDDs.
[EDIT]
Ah, since overclocking was mentioned. My BPPC has 603p @ 240->266 and 060 @ 50->64 overclock.
[/EDIT]

Is your board overclocked? Many times people do not notice problems with overclocking until such cpu intensive applications are utilized. Also it might be a good idea to clean Bppc connector and make sure its making good connection.

Hi
No my board is just running at standard 50/240mhz,well i pushed a fan right against the black ppc chip?and the amiga has been on for 50 mins so far without a crash.
So hopefully this might have solved it?

Have you put on a new BPPC cooling fan? remember that these fans are 10 years old and also check that you have fresh thermo conductive paste between the PPC and the heatsink
My mobo is also an ID4 with the same BPPC specs
-
Ok it has just rest again, the good ol mp3 stutter and then reset.
Right, where is the heatsink on the ppc board exactly? The big black thing right?
-
I used 1d4 with 1230/1260/bppc060/zorroII rbm/grex1200/mediatorZIV/fastata/4x IDE/blah blah, never had probs

Same as Piru:

ciao :-)

Yes, it's the big, black square thing held by clips
Don't forget to switch fan if it's the original fan...have a new fan on both my BPPC's
Since it now runs longer with extra cooling it smells bad PPC cooling...

Ok then i'll see about replacing the fan,erm most 40mm fans have the 3 pin socket on and the ppc seems to have the 2 pin?

Yep, but the 3rd pin is often just for the RPM signal
The PPC fan is a 30mm fan...Amigakit and PG here on the board has them for sale
-
Ah right i'll check it out,Thanks for the help.
-
Hmm amigakit dont seem to have any 30mm fans at the mo and just the 40mm/80mm.
-
First thing I would do is start it up with the bare minimum of software running, i.e. boot with no startup-sequence, then setpatch, then just load what's needed to run AmigaAmp. Then see what happens!
Next step is to try it with a different PSU, I'd say.

Looks like Amigakit has removed the item from their inventory
Check if PG has some left

try another simms, i had random crasches (ie while playing quakeppc) with some brands. now im using 60ns compaq simms and they works great.
(still have problems with cold boot, but thats damned 040)
-
I agree.. Bad RAM does cause crashes a lot..
I have my BPPC on a Rev 1D4 board.. didn't work right on the 2B or 1D1 which is unfortunate 'cause the 2B board is actually in slightly better condition

Do you have a strong power supply ?
I had problems too and needed to buy a new powersupply eventhough it worked for years. Apparently my old modded powersupply aged so much that it couldn't handle the current my Amiga needs.
