Hi I'm a long time Amiga user, who has left for the past 5 or 6 years due to being too busy with PC's.
I'm interested in coming back, and am curious on the status of the AmigaOne... are they still made, and where can you get them.
Basicly... what are my options for running OS4?
-
Nope, not made any more. Currently the only option for running OS4 is to fine a used AmigaOne.

Right this second: none.
In the near(ish) future (possibly):
-OS4 will probably be available for Amiga1200s, 3000s, and 4000s with a PowerPC accelerator
-Amiga Inc (http://www.amiga.com) announced two other boards.
-The SAM440 (http://www.sam440.com) might also run OS4
-The Efika (http://www.pegasosppc.com/purchase.php) will run the next version of MorphOS (not available yet), which is just like AmigaOS (and mostly compatible too).
-I don't think AROS (http://www.aros.org) is anywhere near as functional as the other Amiga clones, but a lot of people here like it. You might too.

@kernal
Please check out this link (http://www.amiga.com/about/history/?t=os).
Near the bottom of that page, there is a statement from Amiga, Inc.
regarding AmigaOS 4.0.
"In 2001, ..."

I would have thought the agreement would be void the moment eyetech no longer could make amigaone hardware. Simply put the agreement as I remember it was the OS was to be sold only with the A1 board itself. This statement is probably a ploy for the current court battle that's going on.

I whole-heartedly agree with you.

it was always also meant to be used with PowerPC equipped classics as well at some point. just a minor nitpick !

The AmigaOne has not been made for years. While some owners swear by them, all models have known defects and are prone to a high rate of failure. Despite the known flaws, the price of a second hand board is very high. Unless you have deep pockets and a high risk tolerance I would recommend avoiding these boards.
A second hand AmigaOne is the only legal way to run OS4. If you do end up taking this route, make sure the previous owner has the original OEM CD and is willing to take multiple bizarre steps to legally transfer the ownership of his/her OS4 license.
