Title: CF card+CF_IDE adapter+IDEFIX
Post by: lordv on June 12, 2007, 02:25:03 PM
I'm having troubles with subj. BEfore the idefix is installed via blizkick, my ammy sees CF drive fine, it can install it (via HDtoolbox), format, read and write info/etc. After idefix is installed, CF disk disappears completely.
Even in startup menu there is CF disk for the firts time after poweron, and it disappears after blizkick reboot. Tested with one CF_IDE and two totally different CF cards.

Any suggestions? :)

PS: oh well, idefix 119.16 (as shown by version), a1200+bliz1260

Unfortunately I have large HD (40gb) and as well use 4IDE trick. So idefix is vital :(

Is it possible to take only IDE-related features of OS3.9 to my 3.1 (which is mixed somehow with 3.5 utilities :) in order CF to work and to replace idefix, while maintaining 4ide feature? I'm not very glad swapping and tuning OSes, I prefer when everything functions in a known, stable manner. :)

What could be the difference between a CF card in IDE mode and an IDE Harddisk?

Perhaps idefix doesn't like that the CF card will report itself being a removable device. This same behaviour is an issue with windows, but not with linux, so this can make a difference between different ide drivers in the Amiga system.

I also think I have seen a CF card actively pull down the IDE interrupt request signal line (towards 0V). [d] Then it should not be connected directly to the IDE cable, if there are other drives on the cable. The irq signal may also be connected together on all connectors of the 4-way adapter, so a CF-card can then be the only device on it. Because the drives should only actively pull up this signal, and pulled down by a resistor. You shouldn't push a signal up towards +5V and pull down at the same time. The IDE<->CF adapter might fix this issue.[/d] I checked this from an IDE standard draft, and I think it didn't say the drive can't pull down the line, if it is selected and nIEN bit on a control register is on.
Does the CF card show up with idefix drivers, if the CF card is the only IDE device connected to the 4-way adapter?

I never got a CF card working with IDEfix, and I tried a lot of things.
I made a thread about it on another forum
here (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=21675).

My solution was to not use IDEfix.  :-(

Maybe. If you have an OS3.9 CD you could try putting the AmigaOS ROM Update in the DEVS drawer on your 3.1 machine and then put the 3.9 setpatch in your C: drawer, and see if this successfully updates your scsi.device to the 3.9 version while keeping 3.1. If it works then you might be able to access the extra devices on the 4 way interface without IDEfix.

Well, I have found 3.9 to be very stable once the updates are installed. I would not like to go back to 3.1 now.

I should add to the above that if you do this I would *strongly* recommend that you use check4gb from Aminet to make sure you can safely use drives bigger than 4GB.
