Title: joystick recommendations
Post by: meddle01 on June 08, 2007, 03:11:09 PM
I just bought Amiga Forever - my old Amiga is back on the farm at my parents place in Canada, as are all my disks.   So I picked up some ROMS of the games I have and want to play them on my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro under Parallels/VMWare/BootCamp.

I used to love the Konix (SpeedKing) Joysticks, but they too, are not with me.   Can I still get these and can I get them to work via USB somehow.  If not, what joysticks would be recommended to work on my systems using this emulation package?

Thanks

Competition Pro USB is a great joystick which would work well with Amiga Forever.

The Competition Pro is a good enough mid-of-the-range joystick, but for those of us used on arcade-grade sticks, it feels kind of tupperware-like and a bit lacking in terms of feedback

I have been recently looking into it myself and the X-Arcade is purported to be the king of joysticks at the moment - but it's expensive (100 euros or more)

Though I haven't tried it yet, I am planning to order the new Elecom USB joystick, when it becomes available later in June - it seems good enough substitute for the steel-made, microswitch-based joysticks of yesteryear:

Trouble is only a U.S. retailer is offering them in the western hemisphere and I'm not sure yet that they ship to Europe. I'll report back when (if I managed to) I get it.

These (http://www.amigahellas.gr/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=177&cid=4) are the best joysticks ever for arcade games. Unfortunatelly only the CMS (http://www.cmsco.gr/) is still sold...

I've heard that this type of QuickShot is among best:

I had tested it long time ago but it seemed unusable because its controlled with left hand. BTW, its very durable and has strange type of rubber switches IIRC.

Of course, other Quickshots are rubbish as well as all that lack microswitches.

I can get some (like 20/25) BRAND NEW NEVER BEFORE OPEN IN BOX  QuickShot joysticks like the one pictured.

Anybody intrested? PM me!

They are cheap, and you would have to pay shipping from Argentina...just that

  :-D

Thanks for the tips.   I never understood why there weren't more joysticks in the shap of the Konix - it was such a natural hand-fitting design - forms to your left hand with the button right on your trigger finger, and you control the joy stick with your right.  All others you basically have to straddle on top of it on your desk or in your laptop - awkward as hell IMHO.

That quickshot looks good but like you said a big weird controlling it with your left hand - it would be good if that was swapped around.

Thanks for all your tips!

Mike

I forgot this one:

(Amiga version looks identical)
Its good for most types of games. Unfortunately not durable at all, but very anatomical/comfortable.

Someone also mentioned 'zipstick' here (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26192) before. But IIRC it looks very much like 'competition pro'.

Couple that joystick with something like the Stelladapter 9-pin joyport->USB converter and you've got an instant god .

That is my all time favorit joystick too.
"The Arcade"....
I soldered a converter from going from the anologue joystick to a digital output.
The I used an adapter from the mediamarkt to go from joyport to usb..works great.
Using it on my peg2 in uae in combination with whdload.
Just like the good old classic.
