Title: IBM Thinkpad XP License Key
Post by: motorollin on June 08, 2007, 12:36:50 PM
I've got a T41 on which I want to reinstall XP. I have tried using an XP Pro CD with the XP Pro CD Key on the sticker on the back of the laptop, but I get an error that the key is not valid. Anyone have any idea what version I need to use to get this to work?

If have found most coa numbers are not valid when it comes to product activation.  You have to ring microsoft to get it activated.. pain in the arse..
The thinkpad probs came with a restore disc that bypass' the activation.

If you are getting the error on install i would imagine you are using a non sp1/2 disc and the coa is for an sp2.?? maybe.?

The problem is not activation, it's actually getting the installer to accept the key. Anyway, I phoned IBM and they said that the key is only valid for their rebuild disc. They are sending me one, free!

The rebuild disc will probably not ask for one..  Either way you should be sorted.
