'Has Any Developer Received the Developer Board from ACK?'
Linked by Thom Holwerda on 2007-06-03 20:57:12 UTC
Not too long ago, we announced that pigs could fly AmigaOS4 had found hardware to run on. In the weeks following the announcement, the specifications of the two different boards (high and low end) were announced, and ACK Controls, the manufacturer, promised to release the first developer boards mid May. It is now June, and there are no developer boards. No photos, nothing. The community also wonders, has any developer received the developer board from ACK? Believers say that the legal troubles in Amiga land are preventing ACK from releasing the boards, but they forget that ACK has actually promised the boards despite the legal troubles. It seems that they can't fly after all. Update: Adam of ACK Controls said in the linked thread on AmigaWorld: "There will only be a total of five developer systems sent to OS4 developers that will be responsible for drivers, HAL ports. When some of the smoke settles, more information will be released."
I am at a loss on what to think of this development, and what it really means.

its vaporware for now... if anything will be released its when the legal battle is over.

Adam (ACK) does not explain why there is the delay. He promises that naysayers will eat their words soon enough, or something along those lines (well at least glittering).

HAHA just another promise to the amiga community and well take a wild guess wer this will lead. YES i am negative, but who can blame me, mean how many times over how many years has the same thing happened? New hardware announced, new hardware delayed but will still be out dont worry, new hardware scrapped. We are a software only company blah blah blah. OS 5 has been in development for over 2yrs (according to Bill last october) now its we cant start work on any new OS without the source code to OS4 ... HUH??? thought OS5 was in development now they cant start developing OS5 without OS4 source.... hmmmnn sounds like the same BS from Amiga we have always heard.

why not just call up bill mcEwen and ask him? You have the contacts.

I have already called that this will never happen.
“I don’t want to be in hardware because you can’t make money that way,” McEwen said of the switch.
(he said this AFTER the hardware was anounced)

I should start a betting run on things that Billy and company say and do. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Sorry, did they state which year?

You have got to understand, dates and times mean nothing to these people.

'Has Any Developer Received the Developer Board from ACK?'
The latest on this, somebody reported on another site that ACK now claims that AInc. requested that he hold off on releasing the hardware. Apparently Adam pops up and makes random announcements in the dead of night on IRC where only one or two people see it.
ACK is a joke. Apparently ACK was going to buy PA Semi evaluation boards, slap on an ACK sticker and a Boing Ball, and sell them with AInc.s blessing. I guess he finally realized that actually creating custom hardware isn't one of his "skillz", but personally I think even this madcap plan is beyond his abilities.

ACK is a joke, and with a name like that how can anyone take him seriously. Besides all naysayers will eat there words??? very professional sounding isn't it? Besides ACK sounds short for BACK which in AmigaLand means BACK TO THE SAME BS AS ALWAYS. Bill should give up the Amiga name to someone who actually cares for it and continue his "Software Company" under his old name. What was the old name wasn't it like amios or something (sorry memories a bit hazy).

Maybe he's just waiting for Eee PC (http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Computex_2007_Intel_Kingston_Foxconn_FIC_Thermaltake_and_Albatron/?page=3) to be released? $199 Laptop? Purrrrrrrrrrrrfect! (http://aros.sourceforge.net/) :-D

I too want to decry this whole thing as fakery and vapor (vapour, too). That way I can claim to be a soothsayer if things don't happen. Am I the next Kreskin? Yeah, sure.
Then again, I'd rather be happy when things DO happen.
