so..
i would like mplayer 68k even if mplayer author doesn't want to release it
-
same here...will be good for user who using Amithlon or WinUAE...very good player!!!
-
no one is holding a gun to you head - go ahead and port it. :-D
-
I am afraid it would be usable on Amithlon only :-(
-
If it only will work on Amithlon, then you'd better make it x86 native and forget about 68k.

@Seiya

So would I. :-(

On 68k amiga, you can use FFMPEG prog to convert all those videos to, e.g. mpeg1.
You can then view mpeg1 on amiga with Frogger.
Get LATEST ffmpeg here:
http://amiga.sourceforge.net

Hmm if FFMPEG is as good as it sounds in the docs then its one of the best programs out.
Gotta try it tonight.
(Looks like it even does conversions to mjpeg, great for making wii movies on the miggy, yay)
-
FFMPEG is not as good as it sounds...
The Amiga port supports only the AVI format and that is partially. Not all codecs are supported. That means that WMV, FLV, QT, etc to MPG is not possible.
Mencoder (part of MPlayer project) supports many video formats, it's more powerful and i think it's more fast too.
I'm not interested for a port of MPlayer because i've seen that it's too slow for a PPC equiped classic Amiga, but i'm definitely interested about a WarpOS port of Mencoder.

on AmiKit too ;-)

@AmigaMance:
Not true!
I converted a Flash Video to MPG with LATEST (which is NOT on aminet) ffmpeg for 68k amiga.
As far as speed is concerned, yes, it requires a fast cpu, but on emulation thats not a problem.

Why? Mplayer is not just divx/xvid. Maybe it'll be ok to play small mpeg files...

I want a dozen bikini-girls with machine-guns ....
Oh wait don't want to look to greedy ..... scrap the guns :crazy:

If a 68k port is so badly wanted, why doesn't someone just try to compile it from morphos sources? There aren't many changes needed (mostly hooks and createnewproc calls). The most boring part would probably dealing with old 68k libnix that may lack a few functions (or not!).
About a warpos port, it would definitely be a bit more work (more than just a recompilation, that is).

WinUAE?

I've used the MOS version and it works VERY VERY well -- however, I doubt it's a simple job to port to 68k.

I doubt it's a simple job to port to 68k.
It's trivial (take gcc and working development setup, libnix + required libs. Take morphos source, adjust the hooks, remove the morphos specific bits from the couple of function calls). Simple m68k build should be no problem. No-one just want to take the job, apparently.
Anyhow, this has been discussed before (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21221), too ;-)

You are right, it does convert flv videos. I meant to say swf not flv.

@Piru
Thanks for the insight (and the link) -- don't suppose that this is something YOU could tackle? ;-)
-
Um, no thanks ;-)

@Piru
Heh, heh :-D

I don't see the point. There are already players for those formats which are playable on 68k Amigas.
-
@Iggy_Drougge
The point is Amithlon and WinUAE (though with windows, why not use WMP, VLC or whatever...)

Well, that's fantastic! Point us to some movie players that can handle formats like WMV3 and FLV...

On MOS, I had IBrowse configured to use MPlayer to play YouTube videos, WMVs, etc. -- there is NOTHING currently available for 68k Amiga that can do that.
I know that MPlayer doesn't play the absolute latest versions of WMV files, etc. but I never personally came across any videos that it wouldn't play -- so in 'real world' use it worked great for me.
-
YouTube videos are so crappy quality, that they might even play on 060? If there would be that player.
-
Why use Frogger to view mpeg 1 files when it is slow, try Riva it is really fast.
K0rky
-
Riva can plays Divx/Xvid?
:roll:
