Is it possible to use an A3000 with an A1200 for the keyboard? Can they be mixed and matched that way? A friend just gave me an A3000 and I'm thinking of hardware and case mod projects. Could an A500 be used as a keyboard for an A3000?
Will they work as a team or separately? Any ideas?
My friend has hundreds pieces of Amiga kit which he will allow me to scavenge.
Thanks

An A500 case/keyboard combination could easily used as a keyboard for any big box Amiga. A1200 & A600 have the keyboard controllers on the mainboard and would have to be heavily modified.
But why? If you're missing the A3k keyboard, you can use any A2000, A3000 or A4000 (with adapter). An A1000 could be used with a DIY cable (lacking reset capabilities) and a PC keyboard would need an appropriate adapter (e.g. Lyra).

Its certainly possible to use any computer as a keyboard for any amiga, all you'd have to do is write a program that reads from the serial port and inserts inputevents based on what arrives. You then open a serial terminal on the "keyboard" computer and away you go. It would be a bit over the top, though, using a whole computer as a keyboard :)
And it wouldn't work for games, of course.

Does the KeyRah work as a PS/2 keyboard with a plug converter? If so then you could use this to make the A1200 in to a PS/2 keyboard and connect it to a PC keyboard interface on the A3000.

The Amiga 2000 keyboard also works perfectly well with the 3000...no mods needed at all!

To all:
I was curious about the possibility. I have one A2000 and two a3000 keyboards which my friend suplied with the A3000D. I have two A1200s and 3 A500s and was brainstorming (or maybe brain-fogging) about them.
Why would someone build a heavy wooden tower or a table with an Amiga installed in it? Why would someone build a pc out of an aquarium filled with oil; a fake meteorite; a manga character; a blob of construction foam; etc? Probably because noone had done so before.
There are some bizarre case mods out there and I am trying to come up with one myself. That's all. That's why we ask, as I recall.
It doesn't sound like this is within my capabilities currently and I thank everyone who answered or will answer. Perhaps my tech friend can suggest or do something with this idea.
Any more suggestions?

OK, I'll be helpfull. Why not try this:
Use the A1200 case & keyboard with Keyrah and use this for a PPC SOC micro sized MOBO ;) also in the A1200 case (It's got enough room), now control the A3000 with VNC from the PPC in the A1200 case.....Job done.

Technoid/Tripitaka:
Interesting. It appears to use rare but costly hardware. My hope is to use my existing or donated parts because I don't have much free cash.
I've also thought about building my amigamod in a coffee machine with external devices fitted into empty 2+ lb coffee cans. I have all that gear here.
It's like I heard a Shakespearean actor told: "You have all the right words, now let's get them in the right order."
Keep'em comin'.

As long as it still makes coffee, it would be an awesome case mod. :lotsacoffee:

Ah, now if your Amiga could control the coffee machine & order said coffee via your cell phone I'd be well impressed. Good luck with it all anyway. :-D
PS. If you get any of your mods finished don't forget to post us all some pictures. :-D
