Title: WTB: Blizzard 4030
Post by: Failure on June 01, 2007, 03:33:20 PM
Subject line says it all.  I'd like a faster processor for my A3000UX, and have had a search running on eBay for a Blizzard 4030...forever.  No luck so far, so I was hoping maybe somebody here had a line on one.

Anybody know what I should expect to pay for such a card, with/without 68882?

Thanks!

Heh. I've been looking for one for similar usage for years with no luck.

The other solution might be to replace the EC030 on a Commodore 3630 with a full 030 (my 3000 is only the 16MHz model so even 25MHz would be an improvement for me). I wonder if that board could handle a 50MHz crystal?

When will you people learn to post your offer/price$ you're willing to pay.  maybe then some people maybe interested in replying.
else the conversation goes like this:
1) I have it
2) i'm willing to pay XXX $ for it
3) no thanks.
fyi, i have that board but only good price to sell it for. no freebies.  this is better than stock commodore 030 board.

You still have that AMIX box running?  :-)

That's an interesting idea...do the CPUs all come surface-mounted on these?  The images I found suggest that this is the case.

I haven't seen any 3630s either but I haven't been looking...

@ Failure

It's functional, but I haven't had the time or space to use it much lately. Also no clock battery + Y2K issues makes it annoying to deal with. Any luck with getting the patch disk working with the hard disk image install?

3630s seem to be fairly common (and cheap as far as Amiga accelerators go). I've definitely seen a large handful up for sale over the past few years. And yes, the CPUs are surface mounted so they'd require a somewhat major rework. I don't have the skill for it and I haven't been willing to spend the cash to have a professional do it (as well as find a compatible 030 chip).

Looking at the photos from the BBoAHW however, it's hard to tell if the crystal socket is for the CPU or FPU...

Nope, no luck with the patch disk.  IIRC, the patches all go ok except for the kernel.  Since I *have* a patched kernel, if I could figure out how to install it (I think I stumbled across docs at one point) that should work on an HD image setup.  Without the kernel patch, a few updated utils are broken.

If I get it working, I'll definitely be posting here since the only active AMIX users I know of are here...
