Title: Siamese
Post by: on November 21, 2002, 01:35:46 PM
Is there anyone on here that uses or has got a copy of the siamese system software?!?

I have been looking for a copy for ages but to no success due to the siamese and hiq websites being no more!

If anyone has it (either version 2.1 or 2.5) prefereably the RTG version would it at all be possible to send me over a copy!

thanks

ming

I think I have it someplace. If I remember correctly I could never get it working correctly and tossed it or used the disk for something else. I paid for it so if I still have it i would have to mail you the disk. Piracy is bad you know! :)

I had the Siamese a long time ago. Never upgraded to the TCP version though as I didn't have a network card at the time. Wish I still had it though.

I originally had the hardware that would switch between amiga and PC input. You could copy and paste between Amiga and PC too. Thats was cool.

Anyway, none of this helps you....have you tried ebay?

I have the Siamese 2.5 software, but I've lost my 4 page instruction manual :-(

I've never bothered connecting it via an ethernet connection, but I still use it via a serial cable to share my Amiga and PC drives... and it works very well.

I have also got the RTG function working too.  I was really impressed to retarget my humble AGA A1200 and ECS A3000 to a full 16 bit 1024x768 display via my PC even over a slow serial link.

If all else fails and I'm not going to be sued by Hi-Soft then perhaps I can help with the software.  Meanwhile, if anyone can scan and email me the paper manual then I'd appreciate it :-)

PS.  NewIcons will cause OS3.1 and lower to hang unless you remove the DefIcon command from the startup sequence.  I haven't had this problem with OS3.5 and I haven't tested it with OS3.9 as I refuse to by anything from those H&P crooks until they start paying Amiga Inc their fees.

I have v2.1 the serial version on cd & 2.5 (full) on floppy.  I ended up getting 2.5 from antigravity before they went under.  I have the full userguide for 2.5
the userguide on 2.1 is on the cd.  Both versions are RTG (the serial version is just very slow because you are sending all the graphic info over the serial port)

Both version do no use the video switcher hardware.

I don't remember where I got 2.1 from I did a search on google & went to every link that still sold amiga software.

I have Siamese 2.5, and can't say I liked it much...

But the Siamese software won't work without a parallel port dongle being installed on the PC side. Unless you can get a cracked copy, someone sending you a copy just won't work.

from what i have read on it, the later versions of 2.5 did not require a dongle!

also you can avoid using the dongle by using the main .exe from version 2.1 as this is in effect the same file

Ming is right, the later versions of v2.5 had all protection removed.  I bought mine directly from the makers of Siamese and it has no keycodes and no dongles - just two ordinary floppy disks (one for the Amiga and one for the PC).

What have they put on the CD version?  My "floppy" v2.5 comes on two floppy disks which contain the installs for the PC and Amiga plus some extra software like mode promotion, SCSI ID changer, etc.

I don't suppose they have the docs on the CD?  If they do, could you email me the docs files?

Cheers

Thanks mate, those docs are perfect.  Infact, they're better than the docs that came with my original "floppy" software.

I owe you one....

Well, on mine was a mpeg video showing you how to install the Siamese system and its cards from Steve (Paul?) Nolan himself. I found the manual more useful.
