Hi all,
Wonder if you can shed any light on this problem! I've recently installed an
EBay-bought 2.5" hard drive into my Amiga 1200. It was previously used in a PC laptop I believe and it's an IBM model. It had worked temprementally but now on power up it makes a low hesistant grumbling noise, and instead of booting into Workbench (which I was able to install successfully) I get the purple "Insert Disk" screen and the hard drive starts to do a very good impression of a police siren! I suppose the drive is knackered, the police siren noise is it's out of control spinning behaviour, and the moral of the story is buy from Amigakit. Any other thoughts / suggestions?

I've had quite a few rumbly IBM 2.5" HD's in laptops, but fortunately I changed them before they failed. They did seem noisy compared to most other HD's though.
I guess there is a possibility that you could dismantle the drive, oil the spindle, and try to copy off the data, but there is not much chance of that working :boohoo:

Sounds like a nice HDD. I always had good luck with the Fujitsu and Samsung 2.5 HDD's.
