Title: Amiga 4000 & 2nd 1.76MB Disk Drive
Post by: jimbo100 on May 27, 2007, 06:38:23 AM
I have got two HD floppy disk drives installed, however DF1: will not read DD or HD Amiga disks.

DF0: is jumpered as DS0 and DF1: is jumpered as DS1. I have the floppy cable with the twist at 4 & 6 and J351 is open as per the A4000 manual. (I have tried it with J351 closed but the result is the same) The floppy cable has DF0: in the middle and DF1: at the end.

Now if I swap jumpers and turn DF0: to DF1: it becomes the dude drive and DF1: to DF0: becomes the 1.76MB drive so I know both work ok. Both drives are Chinon FZ-357A models.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get DF1: to correctly read Amiga disks. I did this 13 years ago and I don't remember having this kind of problem!

J351 Open if 2nd internal floppydrive is DD, closed if no 2nd internal floppydrive OR 2nd internal floppydrive is HD.

DF0 should sit on the end of the cable and DF1 in the middle.

DF0: sits in the middle before the twist on an Amiga 4000!

J351 should be open if no DF1: is installed or it's a 1.76MB floppy, so in other words no jumper should be used to short J351.

This is according to the A4000 User Guide which I have in front of me!

The Big Book of Hardware has it the other way round but it's wrong!

The cable twist already takes care of addressing the drives, so jumper both drives as DS0.

Not quite right, if 4 & 6 are the only lines twisted you need to change the second drive to DS1.  If 10 & 12 are also twisted then they can both remain DS0.
