Title: Multi monitors...
Post by: pyrre on May 24, 2007, 03:29:26 PM
A question loosely out in the air...

Is it (or could it be) possible to run an amiga system with dual screen setup? Not just two monitors connected to the system, and interchanging between them when changing screen mode. But two (or more) monitors at use at the same time?
Like... if you have a mediator and two voodoo cards...

Would that be possible?

(I use dual screen on my pc, and have become sort of addicted to that setup...)

It may be possible.

But at the same time, if your willing to wait to see if the two new Amiga systems come out, you'll still be able to play older games on OS4, not sure how old though.

Point being, if you are able to wait and see if these systems do come out in a few months time, then you can have more than two if you choose a video card(s) that allows this to be the case.

Cheers!!

P.S.I am wondering what classik Amiga system you have that you wish to try and setup with more than two monitors?? its not the A1200 that you have as your under writing by chance is it??

nope, you can't!

The only Amiga program that use a dual monitor approach, is ProStationAudio. (an audio NLE app)

You can setup the timeline in a monitor and the mixer onto the other. A shortcut is used to switch between the 2.

None in particular, just was wondering if it were possible.
But why not A1200?
With a mediator or a G-rex... and two GFX cards...
Though Im not sure about cpu usage....

The OS isnt setup to do this so special drivers have to be written to allow it. Newtek did this for the toasters for example.

Running separate windows of separate applications (or even the same one) on more than one monitor is no problem at all - I've used that setup more than 10 years ago with my (then new) Merlin (e.g. Workbench on RTG, Diskmaster  on ECS).

Splitting one window over separate monitors is not possible, as has been stated. I have no idea whether P96 or Cybergfx support multiple RTG cards though...

PS: I just remembered I actually had three monitors connected: by using some weird overscan setting it was possible to freeze the output on an A2024 Hedley and switch back to a PAL screen and work there.
