Hello,
my name is Sascha and I am new to this forum. Im from germany so please forgive me some typing errors in my posts, I try to write as good as I can.
OK now to my problem with the Amiga3000 (Rev. 9/03) desktop.
The system works very stable and fine with the onboard MC68030/25MHz and ZIP RAM.
This changes when I plug in a A3640 CPU card (Rev 3.1) with well cooled MC68040/25MHz. At first the Amiga3000 works, floppys and harddrives are found and the CLI/WB starts up. Also the bootmenu works fine.
But this all for a maximum time of 4 minutes. After that time (sometimes earlier) the system freezes and the onboard 68030 COOCKS like hell! I smelled something like heating IC and touched the 68030, my finger was nocking red and I directly turned off the machine.
My finger is well again and so is the 68030. Everything works fine and there is no damage as far as I can tell.
My question is now, is this a common problem or maybe there is a timing problem somewhere? This A3640 CPU card works very fine in my A4000, no system crash and no overheating at all.
I did also check the voltages in both systems, 5V VCC is at 5.05V (with some .0x V tollerances in working system).
Is there any fix or maybe a component damage somewhere on the A3000 board?
Would be nice if someone can help me.
If not, the A3000 will do its work with the default 68030 CPU :)
Thanx and regards
Sascha

There are about (3) jumpers that must be changed on the A3000 motherboard for the A3640 to work properly. I have a list of the correct ones to change, but I will not be able to get to it until tonight. Perhaps someone will reply with the correct jumper changes before then, if not then I will add them to this post.

@boing4000
Set the following jumpers to the correct position:
J100: 3-4
J102: 2-3
J103: 1-2
J104: 2-3
See for more details this link:
Using the A3640 in an A3000 (http://www.amigau.com/spock/a3640.html)
I'm using an A3640(rev. 3.1 with flat heat sink) in one
of my A3000's too, without any (heat)problems.

@keropi
sorry but this was not me :)
@AmiDude
I did set the J102 also to EXT (1-2) and this was the cause of system stocking and suddenly overheating the 68030.
Now its working :) thanks a lot for the help!
