Title: Ramlib Error
Post by: pooop on May 23, 2007, 03:47:11 PM
I have just installed and partitioned an 80GB hard drive using hdtool box OS 3.9. I then copied workbench from the old hard drive onto the new one, disconnected the old hard drive and set the new one as master, but when I boot from cold I get "ramlib program failed (error #80000008) message. I have tried using emergency boot disk and can get it up and running that way but is there any way of getting it to run properly without using a boot disk and installing workbench from scratch. BTW I do not have enough power connectors to run both hard drives simultaneously along with cd rom, zip drive etc.

Cheers

I had this error, to over come it I copied OS3.9 libs onto the HD partition where libs was.
I nother words I simply recopied Libs back to Libs.
That cured the problem.

I dont know it that will work with you, but it did with me.
BTW, I also done the same as you to get the same problem.

I hope this helps.

Mike.

Have you added Ramlibpatch to the s:startup-sequence

one 80GB partition only?

Create a 200 MB partition at the beginning of your HD and letf the other unformatted.

Boot from the Emergency disk and then install OS3.9 from there onto the 200MB partition.

Then goto the AmigaOS 3.9 official FAQ page (http://www.gregdonner.org/os39faq/os39faq.html) to iron out some problems you'll get anyway ;-) (an early OS3.9 version CD copies the wrong SetPatch f.e)

Good luck!

The new drive has 3 partitions DH0 - 10GB,DH1 - 35GB and DH2 - 31GB. HDtoolbox recognized it as a 76.3GB HD but would only give me 20GB partition so I did it manually and that sorted the partitioning problem

10 GB for a boot partition, is a no go with your starting setup.

The boot partition should be no larger than two gig.
It should also be the 1st partion.
Have you installed both the boing bags?
That will sort out the 20 gig limit.

There it is !!! The boot-partition has to be under the 4GB-barrrier, as at first startup there are no patches to rom installed (only plain Kickstart 3.1) and Kick31. doesn't recognise any partitions above 4GB (It is even dsangerous to start that way, code could be written into the bootblock -> data loss)

Make the first partition under 2GB to be on the save side.

OS 3.9 never will blow up like Vista, so you don't need 10GB to boot the Operating system.

After the first executing of setpatch the OS reboots and from now on the Harddrive is recognised at the full capacity

Why leave the rest unformatted? can Workbench use the rest of the 80gig HD like that?

I think he should also do QUICK FORMAT on all the partitions so that the OS boots much faster...........I have a 40 gig that I formatted into about8 or 10 partitions.........and I FULL FORMATTED all of them............My OS takes 8 minutes to boot!   HORRIBLE! ontop of that 2 partitions are unvalidated and cant seem to be corected no matter what I do.............the only way is to copy the entire harddrive to another HD and format the original one over and then copy them back.

All my partitions are about 4.3gb in size except for the first Partition for Workbench and the last one.

Thanks Guys. Repartitioned drive to DH0: 3.5GB, DH1: 41GB DH2: 31GB then copied workbench back onto DH0: and everything seems to be ticketyboo (so far)
