Hi guys,

Back in amigaland after five years absence, I'm trying to get an A3k running.

I found a 3.2gb Quantum Fireball (scsi) drive I thought would be perfect for this machine.

However... HDToolBox doesn't want to play at all. When i try and read the physical data from disc I get all but correct values.

Has there been any updates for hdtoolbox, or perhaps entirely new 3rd party software that handles larger disks in a better way?

Back in my days 3.2gb barely existed, so i've never tried installing this large (all is relative) disks in an amiga before.

OK, the 3.2Gb drive should work fine, even with OS3.0. If HDToolbox reports a negative size for the drive, ignore it and push on :-D

As long as you don't make any partitions bigger than 2Gb, you should be fine.

Welcome back to the Amiga!

3.2Gb should have no trouble on 3.0/3.1, as said, but might (I'm not really sure) be troublesome on 2.04, if that's what your 3000 is equipped with. Consider getting some 3.1 Kickstart chips if you don't have them.

Before installing OS3.9 my 3000T had 2x4gig SCSI HD's in it with no problems. Though I did eventually install the NSDPatch on the system.

There is no "physical data" concerning a hdd nowadays. All that really matters is the total number of blocks. The other values are calculated internaly to match the needs (about 1MB per cylinder). Check that the total number of blocks is correct and you can be happy.

If the number is not correct, change the values for tracks, heads and sectors until it is correct. Remember that you need about 1000 blocks per cylinder to fit the RDB into the first two cylinders.
