Along with my A2000T, I got a small case with a romchip, labelled 390630-02 does it work in the A2000? is it the 1.4 rom?
it looks like the bottom chip of this pic, that is labelled in BBOAH as ""A Pair of Kickstart 1.4 ROMs. The special A3000 boot roms"

:-? :-? :-?

ask google? (http://www.google.com/search?q=390630-02)

yes I know how to google, it is just strange I got this with an A2000, I say it on the 1st post... I was just wondering if it is of some use for the A2000

It is one half of an A3000 KS1.4 ROM set. On it's own it is useless.
Even if you had two they wont work in the A2000 as they are 32-bit.
As for why someone gave it you:
1) Some accelerators take 32-bit Kickstart ROMS. Seems strange to want to use KS1.4 as it only can boot from the A3000 SCSI controller!
2) It had Amiga and Commodore on it and so the guy who sold you the A2000 threw it in a box with all the other bits he was getting rid of.
I favour (2).

I don't know who's the nincompoop who called these ROMs KS1.4 but there is no such things as a kickstart 1.4
Part 390629-02 and 390630-02 are the original boot ROMs of the Amiga 3000 which requires a kickstart file in the DEVS directory of partition WB_2.X: or from a Superkickstart disk.
These contain no kickstart at all.

From Wikipedia:
Kickstart/Workbench 1.4 was a beta version of the upcoming 2.0 update and never released, but the Kickstart part was shipped in very small quantities with early Amiga 3000 computers, where it is often referred to as the "Superkickstart ROM". In these machines it is only used to bootstrap the machine and load the Kickstart that will be used to actually boot the system. The appearance is similar to that of 2.0 and higher, with just minor differences. It is, however, possible to dump out of the OS selection screen by clicking where one would expect to see a close gadget. This will cause the machine to boot Kickstart 1.4 using either the wb_2.x: partition, or from a floppy.

In the early 90's every single Amiga 3000 I have ever seen was sold with these ROMs. People had to pay extra to get the KS2.04 on a pair of ROMs for compatibility with accelerators.
I purchased mine in 1992, only a few months before the 4000 came up and it too had a pair of boot ROMs... so much for the "very small quantities"...
Also, the only thing I was EVER able to get an A3000 to do with these ROMs is tell it where to get the real kickstart from. There is no real kickstart whatsoever in them.
I have a pair of Working A3000 MoBos here and BOTH OF THEM have these boot ROMs.
When you power up the MoBos with no floppies or hard drive, what you get is a 4 button requester offring to load either KS 1.3 or 2.X from floppy or HD.
What I think this text says is that a very small quantity of the early Amiga 3000 boot ROMs had KS1.4 in them.
None of the A3000 boot ROMs I have ever seen in my life contained it.

Commodore. Some chips have printed on them "1.4 beta 3"
but there is no such things as a kickstart 1.4
Yes there is.

Not true, as Motorollin has already said there is a secret gadget in the top corner of the screen which allows it to boot with the kickstart stored in the ROMS.
1. Shutdown the Amiga.
2. Hold down both mouse buttons when you power on.
3. You will get an OS 1.3 / OS 2.0 selection menu. Select neither!
4. Instead, move your cursor to where the window's close gadget SHOULD be (upper left) and click it.
You might have to fumble around, but eventually the computer will react and boot into 1.4. You will of course get error messages as the OS 2.x partitions will be used for startup, and they require newer kickstarts, but you'll see some rather interesting GUI concepts :-)

< A1K Showroom / A3000 softkick > (http://www.a1k.org/forum/index.php?mode=viewthread&forum_id=18&thread=22&goto=1&post_nr=13#13)
BootROMs are allways Kick1.4 ROMs.
Use the hidden Gadget and you will see ...

None of the boot ROMs I have seen had this printed on them.
If you say they have KS1.4 in them then it is possible.
However, this makes the "very small quantities" qualifier totally untrue.
