Hi Everyone!
Im currently looking to see if I can get hold of the rare 68060's clocked at 100MHz.
If i can get hold of one and before I buy it i was wondering if It would work k in my current Apollo 060 borad on my 1200??

It would work fine, just not at 100MHz. It's not the 68060 itself that is the problem but the rest of the logic on the board (not to mention the memory) would struggle to keep up. The fastest speeds I've heard of are around 80MHz for 68060 cards and only some were stable at that speed.

If you get one of the latest 68060 it should be clockable up to 100MHz with good cooling (they are only 50MHz parts...). You normally overclock it through the oscillator on the Turbo board - AMIGA turbo boards are not designed for running at such high clock speeds.
I heard that most Apollo Cards are clockable up to 80 MHz, there is someone around here who does 040 to 060 upgrades-he knows better than i.

What sort of speed could I get upto? 80? 90MHz?
Are there any modification I could do (or have someone else do!) thta could allow it to run at 100MHz?

For that kind of speed, you'd really want an SDRAM based system like the CT60 (for the atari falcon).

Not really. It gets a very fast CPU board, but that's connected to a dire motherboard design with a 16-bit wide bus that made the original 68030 suffer, let alone the beast of a CPU they grafted into it :-D

I had a 060 @ 80 Mhz once. Worked okay, but the picassoIV addons would not work, and some other things, so I changed it back to 50...

Careful, you're gonna get people fired up about porting the CT60/63 boards over to A1200 again like I did in the other thread :crazy:

Doesn't the Apollo 1260 run the memory bus at half the CPU clock speed? One of the major disadvantages compared to the Blizzard 1260 iirc.
Pure speculation on my part, but with the Apollo this might work, as the CPU would be running at 100MHz, whilst the memory would run at 50MHz.
If that is the case the slow memory access speed of the Apollo could be a "feature" rather than a "limitation" in this case.
Then again, it could just burn out the rest of the logic on the card :lol: .

The Blizzard has the option to insert waitstates in the memory interface.
See their special CPU060 tool as to how to do it.

Apollo1260 is much more faster than Blizzard1260 at the same clock (because of best chipram access rate). Just have a look at some recent TBL demos and compare the speed on each board...
Btw, Apollo cards works fine at 75Mhz with some cooling. Got mine at 66MHz without cooling system.

Back in 1998 I heard rumors about a blizzard 1260 over klocked to 133MHz.
I don't know the details about the 1260, but my PPC card has a selective multiplyer. though you have to solder on the board to do so. But AFAIAC i only know of the possability to select between 0,5(for 040) and 1(for 060) using original 50MHz oscillator.
I would really like to know if there is possible to increase the multiplyer somehow....
Especially if that is possible to do on a 1260 of some kind...

What revision 68060 do you have?

You cannot change the multiplier but you can change the crystal. Before changing the crystal you can activate precharge, preload and waitstates so that after you increase the RAM speed it still works.

Unless it crashes before it can load the command though, right? I'm pretty sure only the PPC cards allow a firmware change.
My B1260 ran perfect at 66 MHz, but crashed at 70. I had an older mask (F43G) revision. Another problem with the Blizz is that the SCSI kit may not work at much over 50 MHz.
