I got with the A2000 a Marcosystems DeInterlace 2000 card... so, I was wondering if it is a scandoubler or just a flickerfixer....
can't test at the moment since the A2000 mobo was dead...
BBOAH says nothing about scandoubling, but Amiga Hardware Database says it is one... anyone has one to enlighten me on the matter?

A flickerfixer is allways a scandoubler too. The technical prerequisite to remove the flicker is scandoubling the image first then cache every singel image and send it out twice thus doubling the refreshrate.
Problem with all the A2000 scandoubler /Flickerfixers is that they are only 16bit so if you put it into an A4000 you will miss out some colors sice AGA is 24bit.

12Bit to be precise .....

Correct. It has been a while since I fiddled with OCS/ECS ;-)

great then, I only intend to use it with the 2000
thanks! :-D

According to the BBOH
" very old (circa 1991) deinterlacer card designed for the A2000. It has a standard VGA type connector, however it does not pass through VGA video displays, it only stops the flicker from interlaced displays."

lemmink is right, when you're deinterlacing, basicly you're combining two lines into one and since you send double the information in the same time the frequency is doubled eventually. The wording of BBoAH is rather strange. I guess they wanted to mean it doesn't have pass through for VGA output of video cards ? (it doesn't make sense either way)

BBOAH must mean that this one does not recognise the Productivity modes, and it just stays blank...
amiga.resource.cx clearly states that is doubles to 31khz, and on the German manual it says in the intro that an amiga monitor is no longer suitable, the user must have a VGA one...
-
You can use the card to display all OCS pal (50Hz) and ntsc (60 Hz) modes in lowres, hires, hires interlaced on a vga monitor. Monitor has to be able to display 50Hz!
The other ECS and AGA modes can cause trouble with it. It works in A4000 too. But the slot does not fit.
As mentioned it scandoubles 15khz to 30khz and "deinterlaces" interlace modes.

I ma getting a replacement 2000 mobo that has the ECS chipset... will I have any problems displaying games with that? (for wb I will use a picassoII)
-
What kind of trouble? Most games display pal lowres or hires, never had trouble with the screen display. I don't know if there is any game that uses superhires or productivity screen modes. If the game uses a non wb screenmode picasso2 automatically switches.
-
I asked because on amiga.resource it says it has partial ECS support...
thanks for the great info!!!! :-D

as far i can remember, partial means that all new non 15kHz Pal and ntsc screens ECS offers are not displayed correctly or not displayed at all. I don't know if you possibly damage the DeInterlaceCard by changing to an 31Khz like productivity for a longer periode of time.
