Title: Hello form Sydney, Oz
Post by: moiecoute on May 08, 2007, 05:46:56 AM
Hi all,

Glad to be joining the community. I grew up with A500/A2000 but let it go some years ago. The news about OS4 and new hardware have got me back into it.

Hope it all eventuates.

Could I ask a question, any know of any places in Australia that sell Amiga gear / would have the new computers once they come out.

Looking forward to reminising and staying the community as we regroup back with OS4 and beyond.

Joe

Welcome dude, new Amiga hardware from Amiga Inc will be available in any major retailer - next to the Unicorn stables and behind the FTL drive repair section.

Retro is the only viable path - there are two 'dealers' that are semi-active in Australia:

http://www.amigainnovations.com

http://www.anythingamiga.com/

By "semi-active" I mean their websites are updated once every 23 years, and they may respond to an email in a week or so.

Your best bet is to buy stuff off Ebay or new via a solid dealer like www.amigakit.com

Be prepared for some steep prices on Ebay though - do a search on keyword "amiga" and see what I mean...

Hi Joe,
Is it a coincidence that your Nick translates in french to "me listen" ?

Hi mate, and welcome, from just up the road at Gosford. What did you enjoy using your Amiga's for back in the past?

Thanks for all the replies guys. Feeling welcome already  :-D

shillard I see what you mean about those websites. Very tragic.

I am just looking forward to using it as my home computer. Since I heard the news about os/4 it has made me want to experiment after years of being a die hard Microsoft man. I've installed Ubuntu and downloaded Amikit.

Like everyone else just hoping the legal action gets sorted out and quick smart. If I had the money I would start a class action against both these companies...... I'm sure we can find something to sue them over  :-P

G'Day mate!

Melbournian here, but not much longer since I'll actually be moving up to Sydney in just over a month for a contract I have up there. It'll be interesting to see the place for the first time!

Hey, maybe we'll meet and discuss all things Amiga! :)

That I know of, there's an okay Amiga shop in WA.

As for OS4, use AROS or find a Pegasos somewhere.

Greetings from across the ditch!

Welcome to A.Org! And definitely check out AROS. Seeing as you're already running Ubuntu, grab the (free) VMWare server and install AROS into that to have a "risk free" look at it...
