can some one please tell me if $550 is alot of a A4000 with video toaster card 4000, cybervision 64 3d kickstart 3.1 OS 3.9 2Gb Hard drive and 48X cdrom drive and cyberstorm 060 with 96MB onboard (as is) and an extra 060 cpu, and to boot, I was including 2 monitors with that system 1960 and commodore 2002. he paid $550. for the auction and only an additional $70 for shipping due to my miscalculation, so I had to put out an additional $75 out of my pocket for shipping. the item was being shipped from Brooklyn, NY to Calgary Alberta Canada, the a4000 TOASTER SYSTEM GOT THERE FINE, but the monitors got there broken, and now he wants me to put in a claim with UPS.
UPS only settles claims with the shipper, I had brought the computer and the monitor to a professional packing company to be boxed and shipped, so they are the ones that have to put in the claim and after I had informed them they said will do so.
Contacting Ebay I asked them if the damaged monitors are my responsibility and they said no.
can you please tell me where I jipped this guy out of money, I mean the Auction was for Amiga 4000 Video Toaster System, I just happend to included the monitors.
the auction was won by BUY IT NOW for the price of $550. and I only charged him $70.00 for shipping instead of the actual price of $145 due to my mistake.
PLEASE JUST LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
Please note that the monitors were working great the day they were packed
here goes a link to that auction, please let me know what you think. Also he refuses to leave me positive feedback and for some reason when looking at the feedback I left him the aution number comes up as private, so here is the LINK:
Warpiper's A4000 auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2728420660&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAS:US:3)
I THINK I HAVE BEEN FAIR WITH HIM AND HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I REASONABLY CAN DO.
-
Just whatever you do, don't forget that one negative feedback comment is in no way the end of the world, and you can leave brief explanations for negative feedback.
If the situation is as you've described, it sounds as though you've done everything you can reasonably do. If the guy's being a jerk about it, he'll just have to enjoy being angry for awhile. AFAIK you are no longer under any obligation to him for anything once the packing company has filed their claim.
You could always offer to refund his $550 if he ships everything back to you, but he would still have to pay the shipping charges for both the sale and the return :-D
When you've got positive feedback behind you, one negative comment will rarely (if ever) affect your status as a buyer or seller on ebay.

Sound Advice! but I'm worried, your avatar isn't really tied up? oooof back to bed...
-
I think he got an excellent deal. Have you seen the price of that ram recently?
And a video Toaster, man those were/are expensive!!!
And I've looked at Sofware Huts prices recently for JUST an accelerator, and they are HIGH! (Checked for an A2000 060)
AmigaOne! Expensive, but you get the heritage!
-
Dude I say $550 was a great deal for a PPC
A4000/Toaster rig, one could pay that much for
the PPC card by itself. It's too bad a monitor
showed up damaged, but hey, that's life and
it's not your fault. You've done everything
necessary IMO (filing claims etc), especially if
the monitors were just thrown in extra anyhow.
-
ok thanks but the accellerator was not PPC just and 060 with an extra 060 on the side, just incase he had another accellerator that needed an 060.
-
You should have sold that A4K rig to me, I wouldn't have complained about a broken monitor :-)
-
I wish I would have known you wanted it, I am sure that you would have enjoyed it more, and be very pleased.

I watch for items for sale on ebay all the time. This guy is parting out the Amiga you sold him. Look HERE (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=karmanss&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50). I wonder why this guy has his feedback PRIVATE??? Kinda makes you wonder. Anyway I think he got a darn good deal. wish I would have seen it for sale first. I wouldn't worry about it cause he was just gonna sell those monitors anyway.
-
I also sent him two copies of the Toaster 4.1 install CD, in fact its the exact same one that he is also selling. And the fact that his feedback is private kinda bothers me, as he has not left me any feedback yet and refused to leave good feedback unless I some how compensate him.
-
I hope he isn't one of the users on here, reading this very comment!
AmigaOne! Save up those pennies and get One!
-
That's sickening! To think that it actually could have gone to someone that would really want/use it (ahem :)
I'll admit, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the Amiga's, it'll be my first Amiga computer ever (I used to have a C64 , but have been more of an Atari affectionado ) but I have seen the Toaster/Flyer setup and I just couldn't resist wanting to mess with it!
Plus, there's the games! (And a great community alike!)
He got a good deal if you ask me! I just won an auction
for A4000 with Video Toaster and 060Mhz chip and NO CD-Rom and probably a small HD. (I have no problem
upgrading the HD and adding a CDrom though, however I've heard there may be problems with certain SCSI CD Roms and the A4000, is it true?)
I just now hope the ram is beefy and the system is fairly up to par. (at least for what I want to do with it, some video editing and games)

Considering the Cyberstorm card alone is worth what he paid for the whole system, I'd say with or without monitors he got a good deal.
Then again, I only paid $50 for my A4000D, tho it is a stock system (040/25) *shrug*
-
You know, I couldn't help notice how nice your system was WarPiper... really take good care of your stuff yea?
Very nice setup! (Drool ;)
Man, makes me feel kinda bad to what I just won but hopefully it'll serve it's purpose and I can probably clean it up to a very nice status.
:-P

@ ambientdistortions
I try to take of my stuff the best I can, there was alot of love put into that machine over the past years, for me to know that he is peicing it out then reselling it, does not bother it, I mean after all, its his, but what bothers me is the fact the monitors were handled badly.
But what really topped that is the fact that he is holding positive feeback to me over my head for the insurance money, if any, that UPS may award in the claim that was put in.
here is an excerpt of some of the conversations we have had via Email:
hi peter,
we have received the computer and the monitors. the computer arrived safely and in one piece. both monitors arrived smashed, none of them are working. there are major scratches and cracks throughout the monitors indicating that they were dropped? i have agreed in our phone call conversation to pay you extra $20 and asked repeatedly to insure that the monitors are packed safely, unfortuantely i will not be able to leave you positive feedback until you reimburs me for the damaged monitors. i hope we can resolve the matter fairly so both parties are satisfied, please let us know.
regards,
Dominik S

Subject: Re: payment for the A4000
Dominik,
I have called UPS and they told me that the settle claims with the shipper, as I said I had sent it through a professional packing/shipping company that ships UPS, I have contacted them also and told them of the damaged monitors and they said that they will contact UPS and get a claim started, and will notify me when UPS contacts them. Not knowing that the shipping was going to cost so much due to miscalculation, I paid out of my pocket a total of $75 additional, so please dont think that you are the only one who had lost money, also the title of the auction was " Amiga 4000 Video Toaster System " and I was including the monitors, so for 550.00 for the 4000/040 and video toaster 4000 card w/documentation and setup disks, the accellerator card with the 2 060's, cybervision 64/3d, 2 Gb hard drive and the cdrom drive, lightwave 5 with backup copy, and ONLY $70 for shipping, I can not see where I have done you wrong (even though the monitors did not make the trip, remember I did also lose money on the shipping, its not like I did not try, and I can not control how UPS takes care of packages.Thats about as much as I can do for you. I also had contacted Ebay and they said that the claim is your responsibilty, and I am helping you with that too.

hi,
we are not blaming you for the damages to the monitors but are seeking assistance to recover the insurance money to cover the monitors it is essential to operate amiga type monitors. the insurance funds will allow me to buy new ones on ebay. we appreciate your help on this matter and will leave positive feedback upon finalizing the insurance claim.
regards,
Dominik S
Just to let you guys know, I intend on recouping my loss in the shipping fee's befor I reimburse him for any loss's and if he cant deal with that too bad, cuase I dont care about his feed back right now
and if he leaves nagative feedback, I will respond by creating a web page and post every Email from and to him, leaving the link warning about him in my responce feedback, then I would make a complaint to ebay.
ebay has stated that the comment stated by him, about him not going to leave me positive feedback untill I reimburse him, can be viewd as a violation of Ebay's turms and conditions, and that I can report him, but me not being a real PRICK!! I will not do that, unless he really gets under my skin.

Sounds to me you've been very up-front and honest about all this witht the buyer. He got a great deal even without the monitors. Like the other folks said, don't think one negative feedback is the end, some people will not be happy no matter how you try to appease them.

I was in a situation similar to this recently. I was on the recieving end, not the shipper. The shipper also underestimated his shipping costs, but obviously that was his fault. You should have verified the shipping costs before posting, and I can not see your side about losing the 75$. I think his request for the insurance claim is reasonable, even if he got a good deal on the system... (Very nice BTW) The monitors are clearly listed in the original advertisement.
Does the claim with UPS actually cost anything? If so then you could deduct that from the final payment.
In my case we were able to negotiate a reasonable settlement and gave each other good feedback.
:-D
