It was always fun with my Amiga 500 playing copies from my friends, but what would I be using one now for?
Ta. Thanks

Playing old games and re-living the nostalgia of the "good old days"!

P.S. Welcome to Amiga.org!

I'm sorry I have to do this, since it's pretty much in my nature not to hurt innocent people.

You're only limited by your imagination, whether its an Amiga, or PC or Mac..or whatever. I prefer the Amiga because it is conducive to creative thought, not anethma to it like windoze and mac.

Hi,
Yes my Mrs says I'm "playing" on the Amiga again when I'm,
A. Surfing.
B. Writing her a letter and then printing it.
C. Scanning and printing family photos from years ago. Also printing pictures from my digital camera.
D. Chatting On-Line using WookieChat with my A1200 and 8 meg FAST RAM. (great programm James Carroll aka jahc)
E. Posting and getting E-Mail.
Regards, Michael.

This must rate as one of the strangest threads in a long time. It appears to be malicious but I'm not sure. So, gezbelle, are you pro or against Amiga and why ?
-
Hi Homer,
I just guessed uninformed and so responded accordingly.

Amiga500 is good for old games :-)
The only Amiga i use now is my AmigaOne G4 1Ghz, 52Mb ram, Radeon 9250.
It is the second computer i use most after my MacPro.
-
I have a spare one that I can use as a doorstop or frisbee.

Perhaps the original post was supposed to be rhetorical?

Maybe you should give your amiga to someone who still enjoy it..

You said "Is the Amiga of any use anymore?"
Well I use a Spreadsheet TurboCalc 4.0, and StarAMPlan. FinalWriter97 and Wordworth6.0 for word processing, AWeb for the Internet. MicroGoldED for text editing.
Let me see ohhh yes SimpleMail for Emails, NewsCoaster for the Newsgroups.
Amplifer for MP3 music, MUIBase for my database records, PersonalPaint 7.1b and PerfectPaint.
Not to mention a load of other stuff I also use. Like Dopus 4.17 and Dopus 5.5.
So I think the (my) Amiga is very usefull.
Ok to be fair not as fast as these modern PC`s but what the hell it works for me. I don`t get let down by any of the programs I use, now to me that is more important.
I think if you have the software that you need for the things you need to do then thats even better.
But I suppose there will be those who will still say the Amiga is dead lets not bother, Ohhhh yes I forgot to say USB something as yet I do not have but I intent to get it. Also MakeCD with the free serial and doing alot of CD burning.
Is there any thing else I left out to say the Amiga is not worth bothering with?
The Amiga to this day is still an under rating machine.
Not the all powerful PC, not non the less still very userable. Did I mention the Mediator for the PCI cards?
Mike. :-)

The a500 is not very expandable, so the main thing you can use it for is reliving old classic games. The a1200, a3000 and a4000 on the other hand is some much more capable machines that you can actually pretty much use for daily use.
-
hmm..Have only Amiga and dont need PC..using it for all..Internet,word procesing,printing,scaning,play mp3,burning cd/dvd..web design...and more :)...

bleep-bleep-bleep- ATTENTION!!!! troll alert!!!!

How childish can one be?

I still have a amiga 500 (1.3 with 1mb ram total) and a a1200 (3.0 with 40gb HD from amigakit.com).
i repaired these 2 amiga's with parts from amigakit.com and also have a pcmcia transferkit to put ADF files back onto floppy DD disks (880kb disks)and i have alot of adf files. also ordered from amigakit.com. also have the original cloanto package.
now i live in a student house with 40 people here and we always play old games in our living room on the amiga 500.. alot of oldskool fun.. some games are really impressive when it comes to graphics.. it may not have the best 3d games.. but when it comes to 2d graphics like platform games etc. these games are just timeless even in 2007.. not to mention the OS itself a workbench i believe its only 256 or 512kb in kickstart rom 1.3 (a whole 512kb OS).. compare that to windows vista nowadays lol.. 512kb amiga <-> 4gb windows :P where is the world going to?
i can only tell.. amiga is timeless.. some people here who used to own a sega megadrive in the past are impressed by an amiga 500 (they have never played on it untill i showed them)
question is : what if commodore would never go bankrupt and they continuing developing the AAA chipset and keep developing untill today :) would it be better then the mac/windows world we know today :D but i will just keep on dreaming as this will never happen.
-
I have an A500 too.. Playing some good old games...
My favorite is oilimperium and ports of call.... :-)
I am looking for an external HD for the 500 with extra memory...(if someone is having one laying around collecting dust) :-D
-
check on ebay for a500HD.. sometimes amigakit get some old parts. last time they had a internal floppy drive for the a1200 desktop on stock for a while.
i bought an a500 internal floppy drive from ebay (as a backup drive) and 2 external floppy drives for the a500.. somehow they refuse to work on my a1200 tho.. not sure whats wrong on my a1200.

Nonsense. The creativity of artists isn't limited to any one computer or application.
-
remember,only Amiga makes it possible...
If the world doesn't kwow don't be silly the Amiga is still
the best
Graphics, sound, real multimedia makes this a must for every
computer user
Of course great games:Motorhead(funny),Out run (very nice) and Kick Off 2.
{bleep} the WINDOWS and long live the Amiga
Stay clean and the Amiga is here for our joy and every day with us. :destroy:
