Title: RTGMaster: No appropriate screen modes available!
Post by: motorollin on April 19, 2007, 06:18:00 PM
Have just installed RTGMaster 40.0. If I run any of the demos, or a game which require RTGMaster, I get an error saying "No appropriate screen modes available! Have you installed the RTG libraries in LIBS:rtg?"

LIBS:rtg contains 1 file: rtgCGX.library v41.0.

Any ideas?

What OS version are you using and what CGX version?

Using OS3.9. Not sure what version of CGX I'm using. I think it's the one on the OS3.9 CD. My cgxsystem.library is 41.22 if that helps.

That's CGX3 you're using...I'm almost positive CGX4 and the latest update will solve your probs

Are you using Piru's patch to trick OS3.9 you're using a later CGX lib version?

Nope, no patches here. Do you really think CGX4 would help? I was thinking of buying it anyway.

Yep, CGX3 is know to cause problems with OS3.9 so it's no suprise you're having some now.

If Piru's patch doesn't solve your problems CGX4 certainly will...can tell you from my own experiences  :rtfm:   ;-)

"RTGMaster" is probably one of the worst piece of sh*t software ever written for Amiga. I doubt you can get it running in any good way. Good luck, though.

@Piru
Oh dear - is there any alternative if the software requires RTGMaster to display on a CGX screen?

lol! agree

But it seem to like CGX4

rtgmaster is probably another of those unfinished Amiga projects from the late 90's  :-(

Ahh....now you start to sound like a real Amiga classic hardware user  :-D

Our national dish should be noodles because that's all we can afford to eat each month after spedning our dough on old dusty Amiga hardware  :devildance:

Well, I'm afraid the only option is to try twiddle with the options until it works. That is, if you get it to work at all.

Ilkka Lehtoranta has written a MorphOS rtgmaster reimplementation (http://aminet.net/package/gfx/board/rtgmaster_mos) but it obviously won't be much of help for non-MOSers. It does have relatively good built-in CGX support, however.

@Piru
I do have MOS running on my PegII but I want to play Napalm on my A4000. I've just bought CGX4 from Amigakit so hopefully that will help.

@AMIGAZ
I will have to get used to eating noodles every day soon anyway since I will soon be a student again! :nervous:

download v42 from Aminet and install it properly ;-)

RTGMaster (http://aminet.net/gfx/board/rtgmaster_user.lha)

and if you have a PPC card even the WOS c2p RTGGoesWarpOS (on Aminet as well)

ah.... and put a PAL (or NTSC) driver in SYS:Devs/Monitors. (if you don't have any)

IIRC there was an Napalm Update/patch but i can't find it anymore.

Life and gaming with RTGMaster was never dull...but after many episodes it mostly began to work. The biggest problems were probably with Abuse Amiga port, where I also took part into the testing but it never worked with all screenmodes (CGX/P96/AGA) as planned.

Just confirming that updating CGX3 (the version which comes with OS3.9) to the latest v4 fixed this problem.
