Title: Fully automatic monitor switching for use with PIV and CVPPC
Post by: Flashlab on April 16, 2007, 06:24:11 PM
I hope to soon be the proud owner of both a PIV and CVPPC in one Amiga. I'd like to use one monitor with my machine. So both the output of the PIV and the CVPPC must be connected to the monitor and I want the whole thing to automatically switch to the right video source.

Is this possible and if so what hardware do I need? A monitor switcher or a dual input monitor?

automatic eh???
if it was between cv-ppc and SD/AGA I could tell u easily, but pIV and cv-ppc ???? u do understand that u would use cgx4 and that if u have a paloma on the pIV it won't work...
amigakit.com has some nice EYETECH UMON switchers, but they are manual...
maybe u could also do it auto, but that would require to hack the cgxsystem.library , like when u need aga/rtg auto switch...

Hmmm I was thinking in the line of a dual boot system for P96 and CGX. Or maybe even triple when my PPC arrives for MorphOS. Troubles with that will probably my next topic;-)...

But back on topic. Doesn't CGX or P96 turn off any other display output when the other is on? That way the only thing the monitor switch would need to do is automatically switch to the active display input. No hacking would be needed to P96/CGX I presume?

Or am I missing something here?

ok, here is the deal:
when an rtg mode is on, the aga display is not off, it just diplays (from what I saw on my 1200 in the past and my 2 A4000) a constant grey pic, so the display is actually ON, I cannot see any reason a switch can identify this as OFF... it just shows a grey pic...

There's a tool type in CGX and P96 to switch between the modes; something like passtrough and displaychain IIRC.

if the rtg card does not have an automatic switch (like the cv64 or piccoloSD64) then this option does nothing.

Would something like this (http://www.ivojo.co.uk/kramer-vp-211ds.htm) work?

apart from being too expensive, what is it's advantage?  :-?

Hehe it is expensive, but I wouldn't expect that comment from you, keropi!

Anyway the advantage would be that it switches automatically?

Here's another one (http://www.aten.com/products/productItem.php?pid=20050221155011004&psid=2005011710277002&pcid=20050107104612001&layerid=subClass4).

This one is about 40 euros. But can CGX 4 be told to set my PIV to black when I use my CV-PPC. How about switching between AGA and the PIV?
