Title: Can anyone please help me??
Post by: phill25 on April 14, 2007, 06:05:14 PM
I have a single game that I'd love to get working on my Amiga 1200..

Its called Indyheat and I downloaded it years ago but never managed to transfer it over to my amiga cos I never had a high density floppy drive... until now...

I've managed to find on ebay a network card and have cured the problem by transfering it over :-D

My next problem is, I cant remember jack about the Amiga extracting software or how to use the Amiga if I'm honest and so, I've a lzx file but it wont let me unpack it if you like, complains about copyright of the actual lzx program?  I think it's something to do with commercial use...  But I'm only me!!

I have managed to test the packed files and they are fine, but now I'd love to extract them so I can work on getting the game to work..

Please can anyone save me from this nightmare?!  :boohoo:

You can download (de)archivers from my Emulation FAQ page:

If it's only the unpacking then:

a) Goto aminet.net (http://www.aminet.net).
b) Do a search on unlzx.
c) Choose the 68k solution you like and follow the instructions comming with it.

I have managed to unpack the lzx file, but now I'm stuck as I dont know how I can get the game working as I dont have PPMore!

I'm gonna give the Aminet a quick try on that and see where I get to :-)

PPMore is the PowerPacker version of More (a text viewer program), you could change the default tool to More instead or if you want to download PPMore go to:

http://aminet.net/search?query=ppmore

Using these programs through the Shell/CLI is one option but we have developed EasyADF Transfer Kit for transferring items to your A1200 and decompressing them:

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=440

This may be an easier option for you.

The items I'm needing to transfer and uncompress are LZX not LHA ones..
I think this is where my problem is lying..

I have the network card setup and working lovely, I just want to play Indyheat now as I've been waiting for so damn long!!

@Phil25:

Which files did you get from the Unlha (or Unlzx, about the same difference)?

If you got a .adf file then, again, Aminet can help with a piece of software called adf2disk. With that you can, from the CLI, write the ADF file directly to floppydisk.

If you got a .dms file then Aminet should be helpfull as well (actually, it's always helpfull) in providing software to write the DMS to disk.

You mean which did I download to get the LZX to unpack??

I think I just got something that went into C directory... I dont know what the files are that I've unpacked, but I cant use them so I will try and post up whats wrong/going on with it and hopefully someone could tell me what I need to do!

I've downloaded PPMore so I can view the readme file, hopefully this is all I need to get the game working....    :-?  :-D

Ah... I understood you managed to unpack the game archive. My mistake.

You still remember how to use CLI/Shell?

In bits mate!!

I'm getting the use of LHA and LZX commands again, but I've really got to see what the files are in the Indyheat directory to see what I need to do and how I can get it working...  Its the only game I want to play!!

This looks like a Hard disk installer for the WHDLoad program where you read the actual game from the real game disk (800k) and then store it on the hard disk.
WHDLoad usr package can be downloaded from http://www.whdload.de/

I have a feeling that the lzx file will not contain the game itself :(

I've downloaded the WHDLoad program from the AMinet and I'm just trying to get it transfered now :)

I hope its the game cos else I'm gonna be very annoyed!!

I've been looking on the Aminet at some peoples Amiga OS 3.5 or 3.9 and I'm interested :-D  I'll put a separate thread on that tho ;-)

I'm still no further forward with this and I have no idea what to do :-(

Does anyone own Indyheat so that I can buy it off of them?? :-)  I really want to play this great silly game again! :-D

You need the WHDLoad program put into your C: drawer. Then double-clicking the Indyheat project icon (which loads WHDLoad as default tool) starts the WHDLoad program, which starts the indyheat.slave which opens the disk.1 file containing the game program. Or in the shell write whdload indyheat.slave (with correct path).
Hope my memory didn't fail too much...

Thank you very much :-D
