What is the best way to play your favourite .mod or other format files on a machine that they were not written for - without running a full emulator package?
I looove get_down_em3.mod, and would like to blast it out through my pc... but do not want to make a .wav or other such. I'd like to just play the mod. Any ideas?

I don't know...
I don't want to play the mod on my Amiga. I can do that already.

Winamp does a fairly good job too: that's what I use. I installed a few plugins so that .mod, .xm, .tmfx and .sid files are played 'natively'; exotic .dw-files I converted to MP3s first with Deliplayer, which then was no longer required. Octamed never caught on in games and demos because it was released very late as well as being a major CPU hog in playback, so little popular music in that format exists.

Use Oldsk00l (http://www.rift.dk/page.php?1) WinAmp plugin on Windows. Don't forget to delete the winamp mod plugin first.
Use UADE (http://zakalwe.fi/uade/) on Linux.

I think it ought to be in Alternative Operating Systems, if you want to be pedantic. I think technically that's not a thread either.
FYI.
CocoModX is good for Macs.
