Title: Protective rubber seal
Post by: motorollin on April 04, 2007, 10:50:50 AM
Hi all

I'm still looking for a supplier of a protective rubber seal to go on the cut edges of my A4000 PSU. The only suppliers I can find either sell in bulk for ridiculous prices, or sell the seal as part of a window mod kit. If anyone know of a supplier of this stuff by the meter/foot without a minimum order, please let me know!

Another idea is to use some cable insulation.  Doesn't look quite as flash, but cheap and easy to get.
Cut lengthwise the outer insulation from a piece of oval shaped two core mains flex.  Use a bit of contact adhesive or something to help hold it in place if needed.

I was considering doing that and gluing it to the edge. Will do this as a last resort - although black PVC tape neatly folded over the edge might actually look even better!

Specifically try automotive vacuum hose. Select the size and color you want and buy a section. Carefully slit it lengthwise with a razor blade and slip it around the opening, trimming it to length as needed. It works quite well.

@XDelusion
They're all too small for me :-P

@Jeff
That's a good idea. I'll either use that or some cable insulation and glue it in place.

Thanks all

Only marginally related, but since auto parts have been brought up...

Those of you who work with TV/RF or other outdoor electrical fittings might be familiar with this stuff (http://www.coaxseal.com/), once available at Radio Shack.  It turns out that essentially the same thing is sold in rolls for windshield mounting for... well, you get about a pound of the stuff for not much difference from the little spool.

It could conceivably come in handy for computer noise dampening/etc., assuming you don't mind covering your components with gummy black goo.

Yuck, instructions should say wash cheetos residue off finger and cut finger nails first. :lol:
