Title: Hello everyone. Amiga 2000 SCSI CDRom question.
Post by: salien on March 27, 2007, 07:13:33 PM
Hi there. I've been a lurker on the site for quite some time, absorbing what I can of useful Amiga advice. I'm breaking my silence because i. I might have something to contribute to the community and ii. I've gotten myself into a tough hardware project.

I want to hook up a CDRom to my Amiga 2000HD. It is a SCSI CDRom attached to the end of a A2091 chain. I'm running WB 1.3 that autoboots from an internal hard drive. I've installed AmiCDFS and still can't read the disk. If I place a CDRom in the drive during startup, the computer locks and doesn't boot.

So, my questions are: first, is is possible to install and use a CDRom drive under WB 1.3? Second, if it isn't, would an upgrade to WB 2.0 help matters? Third, if it is, what process should I follow to install it and how would I test the results?

I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi,
do you have the lastest firmware for the A2091 ?
If not,....  :rtfm:

Thanks. I have the version 6.6 ROMs for the 2091. That's probably the culprit. Besides getting a new board, does anyone sell just the 7.0 or Guru ROMs?

You will need to update both the ROMs and the Western Digital SCSI chip on that board.

Software Hut in the USA sold these chips when I did my upgrade about 6 years ago.

While updating the ROMs might be good. Check other things. When I had a A2000 with 2091 and external CDdrive, for some weird reason, the CD drive tray HAD to be open, or else the A2000 wouldn't boot up.

It's strange but I've also got an IDE CDrom that works fine but prevents an A4000 from booting unless I open and close the CD tray immediately after switching it on. Wierd!!

I thought AmiCDFS requires wb 2.0?  I could be wrong though.

I know that Ralph Babels CDROM Filesystem runs under 1.3

That's a good point.  I've also had a situation where I HAD TO put a CD in a CD-ROM drive for the Amiga to boot.  Otherwise it would just hang indefinitely.

Some early versions (about 1.04 - 1.07?) should work - but never seen it to be confirmed
