What color is the screen when you boot it up? Some people don't know, but the colors displayed during the boot are the system testing its component. Example, if the screen turns red while booting, you've got a kickstart rom problem. That could help you troubleshoot it.
Look at the PLCCs... if any don't look well socketed, remove them (and while you're there, might as well clean their pins and socket with alcohol) and reseat them.
-
mm i replaced the roms..3.0 with 2 of my other board and still the same thing?
must be somthing real bad i think?
someone know some other tricks?
-
ok i also disconnected the keyboard?
does that affect anything?

Have you visually inspected the PCB for signs of mechanical damage?
Have you tried booting it with nothing but the PSU and monitor attached?
Have you gone through the pain of trying the motherboard as a replacement for your working A1200?
The mouse problem could indicate a faulty CIA, failing mouse-connector or mouse, the latter is easiest to check).
Removed and reseated all socketed chips already?
Tried a different power-supply?
Read the newspaper?
Said nice things to your partner?
Seen the sun set?
Oh... erm... must stop... must stop....

ok if i boot it up with nothing but a psu and monitor
i get the kickstart screen showing the 3.0 roms and the disk inserting all the time :)
as for the mouse and all other stuff i used from my working other main a1200
i bought this 1 of from ripoffbay as a working unit
i mailed the guy and he said he tested it before he shipped it (sure and i go to bed with kendra wilkinson)
ok so what can i do now? throw the board away and buy a new mobo?
or can someone repair it?

Really? You must be a lucky man :-)
All joking aside... Back to the topic.
If it's showing the 'Insert Disk' screen with no funny colors then all should not be lost yet.
Unfortunately you've got to go through the pain of attaching the hardware back one at a time until the machine starts to act weird.
So, plug in the mouse at this point (still only PSU and monitor attached!) and press both mouse buttons while powering the machine and keep them pressed until you get the early-startup menu. If that menu appears you can check the functioning of the mouse going left/right up/down. If that works, start adding the next piece of hardware, I'd suggest the keyboard followed by the diskdrive.

ok...i went a little mad andthrowed the board thrue my room
after that i conected it again and started over
now the mouse works again :)..andi see the full graph memory
ok now the othr thing...the h/d?
i can doh/d toolbox and then its a unknown h/d?
but i want to boot it? how to configure that?
i dont wanna loose all stuff on i
-
i was thinking? cold it be that the guy ripped of 3.1 roms
so t wont boot up anymore on it
-
No, the A1200 doesn't need KS 3.1 to boot off a hardrive. KS 3.0 does the job just fine.
Put your ear on the hard drive. Turn on the Amiga. If you don't hear noise, then the hard drive must be dead. Try on another Amiga or another machine (with a USB to IDE/small IDE dongle if you have one).
The guy probably didn't lie to you, but because of shipping maybe the hard drive croaked. Who knows.
As for throwing the board, although a rather unorthodox technique what it tells me is that there was some badly seated chips or something like that. In other words the problem you had before was a MECHANICAL problem, not an electronic. Which makes TOTAL sense, because when you move/ship components and they wiggle around in the box, some can get dislodged or dislocated. That's what it's ALWAYS a good idea after you move a computer to make sure everything is SEATED properly (cards and chips), usually by hand, not by throwin across the room (imagine if Kendra walked in the room at that moment and saw you doing that!! She'd think you 're a spaz!)
Cheers and good luck at discus :)

thats the problem...i have tested the harddisk on my main amiga with 3.1roms and the h/d boots up fine...even all programs on it works
but if i load up the 1 faulty a1200 with a install diak of 3.1 wb i can go to h/d toolbox and read the config of the disk
but idont wanna delete anything on it..i just wanna boot up on it?
any other ideas?
ok when i turn power on i hear the disk spinup..to a certain point...then it goesinto the kickstartscreen
-
ok..i found out that when i go into the early startup menu and then say boot it will boot up on h/d?
so is this just a prob of some software settings?
who can help me out?
-
Could this be one of those slow booting drives that needs a warm reboot to work ? Will it work if you do a warm reboot ?
Hmm....
-
the strange thing is that it boots fine in my other a1200?
only 1 difference is it has a blizzard 030@50mhz?
but i think thats not a prob?
-
heheheehhe i found the problem....
if i put the blizzard in this a1200 it bootsup fine?
is there some settingi can turn off ? i gues it looks for the blizzard?
-
It really should not matter but just to be sure... check Master/Slave settings on the harddisk (should be master).
Oh and try a different IDE cable if available.
I had been thinking about maybe the powersupply is not powerfull enough but that doesn't make sense with the combo with the blizzard ;-).
