This is what happens when companies fall asleep......their market gets stolen:
http://techdigest.tv/2007/03/cebit_2007_is_t.html
thats probably what the A1200 of the future could have looked like. Also click on the Commodore words in the beginning of the Sentence to see Commodores New Gaming PC to compete with the likes of AlienWare type computers.
Also check out engadget.com to see pictures of a few of the new Commodore Models.
I hope if Commodor makes money......they get back into making Commodores without MicroCrap Wintrash.

By "fall asleep" I assume you mean "go out of business". Cybernet has been making these keyboard computers since the 90s.
-
Well..with regards to the Commodore..computers..mmmmmm....I fully support them!! This could be the start of a comeback for the brand!!..and Over all good for us ...Amiga fans/users.. And that GPS thing..looks pretty cool..
See it all started with some calculators..hehe..
Would love to see the Commodore logo back in stores.. :-)
eh..that keyboard thing..has limited market appeal..
-
Keyboard thing? Ehhhh...
A new Commodore comeback? I wish them the best and hope they succeed! I may have to look into one myself if they have some for the US consumer.
-
I will def. do the same..if they are offered in the States..Im not really a windoDOZE fan...
-
I like the case, not the inhards....

Geforce 8800 has enough performance to drive 2007 era games beyond 1080p.

This Commodore company I am sure isn't the same one that built the Amiga. I think they may just be 'using' the name to gain an immediate good repuatation and userbase.
Of course, correct me if I am wrong.

Oh really?
-
So it is the real McCoy!! :-o
Wow, that really is good news!
-
@redwarfer
Define "real". Yes, they are real, as in not imaginary. But, this has nothing to do with the Commodore that went out of business so many years ago.

...oh....what ever gave you that idea?
Seriously, have you been sleeping for the past 14 years?
:lol:
No offense meant, but you have to admit you set yourself up for these ribbings!
-
My idea was that is was that some of the previous Commodore company had 're-setup' as it were.
I thought that there would be some problems with copyright etc. with using the same name and logo and a company, even if they have been out of business for so many years
-
AROS aside, imagine a suitably updated version of Amithlon running on one of those, ey?
:-)
-
At the very least, they should bundle amiga forever with them. That'd be a nice touch :-D

Especially in SLI-mode, mmmm! :-)

There's a reason this kind of enclosure went out of fashion. For that "where did the beige box go?" effect we've got the iMac. There just isn't the hobbyist market that there was in the late 80s, and there certainly is no "A1200 of the future."
If there was, I'd hope it had more in common with the A1200 than the form factor.

That's a cool idea

"Preloaded with a C64 emulator, containing more than 50 classic games"
So why not WinUAE?... it seems people remember the C64 but not the Amiga..
-
It looks like the Amiga properties are firmly out of the hands of the new Commodore, and knowing Amiga Inc, they're not willing to negotiate to change that.
On another note, does anyone else think those case skins are hideous? I'd be embarressed to have my computer sporting one.
-
@Karlos:
I like that idea! If Amiga Inc had any brains they would pursue it.
@Housey:
Ah, only because the C64 was and still is the computer which has sold the most units, ever, around the entire planet.
Of course, they should realize that C64 users then "upgrade" to Amiga, so they should bundle Amiga WinUAE or Forever with it :-)
@Matt_H:
Agreed! I'm sure Amiga Inc., is rubbing their hands, having an evil grin, currently, as they're thinking how they'll sell anything Amiga to the new, and seemingly success poised and determined Commodore.
I dunno... I mean, the case colors/skins I don't necessarily like, like Matt, but everything else looks decent, and not too lame, especially that Gravel toy! That looks REALLY good! Tiny, wireless, big screen, built-in speakers that seemd quite powerful (from the videos I saw), an SD-slot for exandability, a joystick (heh, or reverese stick), and a lot of potential for hackery! I can certainly see many teens picking these things up (once someone has hacked it so you can see non-C= programmes). Could be the hot new trend. It can also very likely support VOIP... so parents might forgoe buying a cellphone for the kid if they can get to them on this little sucker!
Anyways, I wish'em good luck! They look inspired! That's more than can be said of anything else Commodore related since 1993...
-
Come on... It's nothing more than a fast pc with a paint job.
And the keyboard/pc , won't fly in todays market unless it is cheap.
Still waiting for a REAL Amiga.......... :roll:

I actually like a couple of them. I think the Louis Vuitton c-kin is very nice.

what they are doing with this "gaming system" is not even comparable to the old Commodore company. CBM were low-level system designers and innovators. they invented their own chips, system models, Operating systems. no disrespect, but this new commodore are simply picking generic components off tthe shelf and assembling them into yet another IBM-clone with pretty cases.
purely superficial nostalgia ;-) nothing more
-
@arkanoid:
Dude, first of all, as already mentioned already in the thread:
it's NOT the same company. They're just using the name. Well, they bought it, so they can do whatever the hell they want.
Secondly, who says that even if they use the name they have the same 'agenda' as the original Commodore?
Thirdly, the age of "homebrew" (chips, software, 3D engines) has long gone (unfortunately, but true), so it would be suicidal for most to venture into this "dark and uncertain" land (think: Commodore, Atari, 3DO, Sun/Sparc, SGI/MIPS, DEC/Alpha, and many more DEAD companies). It's easier and less risky to use common components which by now (it's been 20 years in the making since the late 80's) has improved tremendously. For example: there's NO faster/better memory than DDR1/2/3 in the market. Yes, there's RAMBus and some other obscure ones, but it's not economically viable and "risk-free". Better/faster busses than AGP, PCI-X ? Don't think so. Better alternative to IDE harddrives? (we're talking about gaming rigs, not servers). And the list goes on. So why would anyone in their shoes reinvent the wheel?
Now, don't get me wrong: I would _LOVE_ to see a company come like a bat out of hell (like the old Hi-Toro/Amiga) and come out with some new UBER technologies: I dunno, Cell processors in a 3D dimensional wafer, hyper-cubed P2P interconnects in a cross-bar configuration, hardware voxel accelerated graphics with 1000x the performance of today's voxel engines and without all the problems, etc, etc, etc for really cheap! (Yeah, right! Almost everything is made for money these days, not out of excitement for breaking new grounds in the computing field...) Like the Amiga of the olden days. BUT in order to do that, that said company must have a different set of plans and a different vison (they need someone like Steve Jobs frankly, or our venerable "father" Jay Miner), and in that case I'm certain they wouldn't want to use an existing brand name. They would want to "MAKE IT", to make their own, so that the world knows them as the ones, in which case Commodore wouldn't really suit them one bit.
Anyways, this Commodore _MIGHT_ one day reach the point where they might want to make a machine of their own, but first they have to make some cash, just like old Trammiel fixed and sold and made typewriters and calculators before starting Commodore Inc. and then buying Hi-Toro/Amiga.
So, here's to them (the new guys), to carry the name as well as they possibly can, because it's been in the gutter for too long since those f****king a****oles at CBM dropped the goddamn ball on the BEST PERSONAL COMPUTER EVER MADE. :pissed: F****kers! :pissed:
Sorry for the anguish, but there are times when it has to come out! :madashell:
PS. In case I'm about to be misunderstood: I'm not mad at anyone here...

Except for the CPU(e.g. Motorola) and Kickstart ROMs(e.g. Intel).
system models,
Not against AMD and Intel’s system reference platforms i.e. reference platforms that powers the cheap Asian motherboard manufactures.
Operating systems.
CBM also ships MS Windows and MS Basic(for 8bit lines and Amiga Basic).

I don’t think CBM could compete with specialised GPU/CPU vendors. During late 80s, Intel has i860 RISC chip the blows AAA+040 in terms of 3D.
