Title: MakeCD made available for free
Post by: MozzerFan on March 10, 2007, 07:10:37 PM
For the ones who haven't registered yet:
The authors of MakeCD decided to make it available for free. Get you free license key here (http://makecd.core.de/#Registration)

I'd like to thank the authors of makeCD for this wonderfull
gesture.

Thanks, this will make up for the irritation I endured when initially registering MAkeCD by snailmail, and also having to re-enter my registration key after x amount of time had passed  :pissed:
I wonder which version that key is for?

Very nice.  This should be posted as a news item for those that don't monitor the forums.

I have been a registered user for many years.  I guess this is good news in general, but I hope it doesn't mean development has ceased.

I presume it works with IDE and SCSI?

I've used it with SCSI.

Are they going to issue a version that doesn't need a code at all?

I am having a problem with the license key. I have to re-enter it every time I start the MakeCD. What am I doing wrong?

it seems a filesystem issue. Which system? and filesystem?

Try to type it manually (not copy&paste) hitting the return key on every string.

You have to make sure you press ENTER after typing in the registration codes.  Don't just type them and then press OK with the mouse pointer....it won't remember them permanently that way.

After you type in the key.  Make sure you put in your registration details.  Then the save button comes up ungreyed.  Click save and you are done.

AFAIK MakeCD makes use of the fib_DiskKey field of the FileInfoBlock and encodes it into the registration. Usually this key contains the block number of the fileheader block of a file (OFS/FFS). This means, whenever you do a Reorg or copy the file around, this info will change and you will be prompted for the reg info again. Also, some other file systems or emulation (what WinUAE does with this field I don't know) might have problems returning stable info in that field.

Yes, it seems the problem occurs on WinUAE PC dir only. As soon as I copied the MakeCD to RAM: and made the registration there, it became permanent. I assume it would work with hardfile too.

@AmiKit

Presumably once you have resolved this issue the licensed version of MakeCD will be a permanent feature of AmiKit.

I assume the application works under emulation once the valid key has been accepted.

@Framiga

could somebody upload the files somewhere? MakeCD site seems to have dissapeared :-/

It's a pity the author didn't release the sources too
