So I set up my A1200T today. It has a 060 board and a Zorro 2 busboard together with a CV64-3D.
I used to have an A4000 back in the day with the same spec so I was quite surprised to see how slow the setup above was in a descent resolution like 1024x768x16 bit.
Moving windows was slow and icon drawing took forever, it was weird coz I tried Power icons and PNG icons felt just as fast (or faster) than stock Glowicons.
I have always known Zorro 2 was slower than Zorro 3 but I did not realize this slow, or I might have been remembering the past through roze tinted glases?

You're better off with a Mediator or G-Rex than a ZII board on an A1200.

since he has no ppc, g-rex is out of the question.
mediator on the other hand is good, but it has it's disadvantages...
what zII busboard u have? I had an rmb one, and the piccoloSD64 I used was great at 1024x768/16bit , it was fast. did you try to use CGX 4 ? did u enable the acceleration options on the prefs?
-
Didn't know G-Rex required a PPC. Glad I didn't buy one when it came up on eBay :-)

I have an (ancient, I think) MicroniK 6860 busboard. And I am running CGX4. I should look at the acceleration in prefs if that can speed things up. May I as where I can find that option?
Perhaps the problem is I am running a photo (size: ~500 kb) as a background, that was actually the whole point of adding a graphics board since I wanted to look at nice backgrounds when playing tunes in Eagleplayer :)

Try this, was slow here also before I had the right settings

there should be an icon in PREFS: that allows u to change the tooltypes of the driver....
-
Oops, forgot the tooltypes
Try this also

Zorro 2 *is* slow, but not at moving windows or icons (even windows in real time) as these are done mostly by the card's GPU. Animation is what Z2 will affect most.
As above, you need to check you have the right settings. I've also found 24 bit to be slow on the P-IV, Z2 or Z3, so try 16 bit.

@AMIGAZ
IMO "USESEMAPHORES" should be set. If it's not set, CGX uses locking that blocks the system completely, taking away the cpu time from anything else.
-
I too have always enabled USESEMAPHORES on my cgx4 systems...
-
Changed it a bit now and it is slightly faster, I think the main problem is the 1600x1200 background scaled down to 1024x768.
I have been spoiled by WinUAE for a couple of years so I have to fix a couple of things in my installation to better fit real world hardware.
-
As Keropi said, the G-REX 1200 needs a Blizzard PPC it will not work with a Blizzard A1260.
It is not the like the big box alternative where you dont need a PPC because the Cyberstorm 060 MKIII also has the G-REX interface.
-
Turning on screen dragging with cgx slowed down gfx significantly on my system.

Ahh..gonna change it..thx :-)

Not to state the obvious, but are you running the Enforcer? It is required for ZII and C64/3D, and at least on my A2000/030 it was like night and day. Without it, everythinh was soooo slow, including redrawing of windows, icons, etc. With Enforcer running, everything zips along. In fact, at 1024x768 it doesn't seem significantly slower than on an A4000...

No I am not running Enforcer! :)
I am going to try it out because justa s you said redrawing of windows is/was sloooooooow.

USESAMAPHORES did a huge difference :-D
