All of us here know that the Commodore company that's putting out this new machine or games or whatever is just some company who bought the Commodore name. But, I just saw something interesting on the G4 channel. In the news crawl there was
"THE MAKERS OF THE COMMODORE64 PC ARE RELAUNCHING THE BRAND..."
That's as far as I got when I stopped reading. The point is that everyone else (who even remembers Commodore) will think "hey, Commodore is back!". (The writers of the crawl messages certainly think that.) That's what I meant by "brand power". Sure, it's just a name slapped on the side, but it's easier to get people to buy your new Commodore junk than to buy your insert-new-brand-here junk.
Anyhoo.

Brand power for "Commodore" should definitely be a plus. But I see a small difference between CBM brand and Amiga. "Commodore" effectively completely disappeared from the market place and the minds of users for years. Now the comeback happens and all those old users get nostalgic and at least look if not buy. "Amiga" on the other hand has been showing up "drunk to the party" ever since CBM went bankrupt.
A more likely reaction to a lackluster Amiga re-launch would be "Oh no, here comes that Amiga kid again." We've seen the evidence of that attitude even on slashdot. "Amiga" brand could be made a plus. But it would take a serious and intelligent plan to over come years of false starts.
A marketing plan with the latest tech lingo and some humor might help.
Introducing the Next Generation system....
The new multi-core Amiga model.... "DuoMas Semanas"
It sounds classy for the multi-core crowd of course. And though it's a very crude translation, us "old timers" can appriciate the name. :-)

I have to hand it to the new Commodore. They don't advertise or announce a product until they are actually ready to show something real.

Yeah, I'm surprised, I read about these guys a couple of years back when they had no firm plans for the brand. Since then, theyve produced a buch of branded gear and not all bad. The C64DTV and the Gravel media player were both good products. I imagine while the new C= PC is "just a PC" (what were you expecting), it will be a capable machine.
Ainc could learn a lot, but wont.

Maybe I'm being thick here, but what does that translate as? The nearest I can get in my (very bad) Spanish is "Two But Weeks"...
Cheers,

So did anyone else notice the new Commodore PCs are out now (i.e. the countdown page now shows the product). At least they look good. Would be a nice case to get to towerize an Amiga into!

Have you guys seen the C-Kins (Commodore Skins) for those cases? There is a Giana Sisters Skin and a C-64 Juptier Lander skin. Well....even if these are standard, boring PC's inside, the new Commodore has some great industrial designer and graphics artists working on the cases for their products.

AROS should've come with it as standard, with dual boot, kinda like MacOSX' bootcamp.

@ Blobby.
OOOO! I'd totally buy that if it came in that sexy, Commodore Case....
But without the "ultimate" vista. :inquisitive:
I'd have to drop the Video cards, unless I could let Dr.Bombcrater borrow it to write an amithlon driver for it. :-D
[EDIT] - You know, if Hyperion were to actually port OS4 to these computers, I bet it would cause a {bleep} storm. You could, at that point, buy a "Commodore Amiga" again. As heavy priced as those frakkers probably are, it would be some hard core nostalgia, as the price would bring back memories too. :-o Ironically, the majority of those computers use the same parts, so it wouldn't be like porting to a "variety" of systems, but just a select, few components.
Ridiculous.

dont be to harsh, it may be some commodore enthusiast who wanted to start a computer company, had the chance to get the commodore copyrights etc, and wants to do the best they can with it.
specs are pretty freakin good and the case designs are cool

Hmm, Tulip sold it to a company named yeahronimo.
( http://www.yeahronimo.com/ ) And it looks like pretty classy hardware tey hide behind the C= brand. At least they don't use the name to flog cheap electronics.
EDIT:
Tulip: Dutch PC builder from ye olde days.
Yeahronimo: also dutch. Looks like iTunes-ish music distribution company.
