Hi Guys,
I need to add a hard drive to an A500 based sampler because
floppy disks are tending to destroy themselves.
Do i have to use one of those A590 drives or can i use some other sort of drive? they seem to be worth their weight in gold for some unknown reason?
(anyone have one they want to get rid of)
also is there any way to upgrade the ram more than the practically iseless 1MB that this thing has?

The hd controllers often include (slots for) ram, but you can also buy something like this:

Thanks.
I cant beleive you can still buy ram for these things!
that sorts out that problem...
just the hard drive issue now. anyone have one for sale?, its needs to be able to boot from it. doesnt need to be huge size or anything

I just bought this

My configuration has 4 mb ram

Is there any hard drives / adaptors i can get new? I dont like the idea of using older gear if i can avoid it These samplers are used live on stage -unfortunately, and the less secondhand gear i can use the better.

It's difficult to find new controllers.. But the hard drive itself could be new, I guess?

will an amiga 1200 or 600 with a hard drive work with all the same software as a 500?
-
Short answer: yes
Anyway if I were You i buy an a1200. It's relatively cheap these days and you can expand it cheaper than a500.
So i think the price of a good hd controller for a500 is the same price of an a1200.

If you do some sound sampling work, (if i read correctly)
you need a good cpu and probably a fpu too. Sound works on a500 takes a life. With an expanded a1200 (68030+6882+FAST ram) it is more comfortable. Most of the best sample converter/editing program use the advantage of fpu.

Uh, stock A500 can do sampling just fine.

I doubt it. FPU is actually slower than integer math.
