Just purchased what might be the ultimate Amiga travel accessory. The Dodge Nitro mini SUV 4wd has a rear seat TV with a 115volt power outlet and composite with stereo audio inputs in the rear of the center floor console. The perfect accessory for my CD32, or A600, don't you think?
I never thought I would buy another U.S. made car, but this Dodge is very solid feeling and fun to drive. In fact, the Nitro is so much fun, and this one is for my wife, I am going to sell my Toyota Sequoia Limited and buy another Nitro for myself. Of course it doesn't hurt that I am able to buy it at only $500 over the dealer's cost because he is a friend of mine. I want the six speed manual transmission instead of the automatic the wife has. I want full control of those 210hp, as my only complaint with my wife's car is that it is a little sluggish. Ahhhhhhh, that new car leather smell is wonderful!

That Dodge Nitro is actually made by the Jeep division. I'd've kept the Toyota. What does Consumer Reports annual book rate Jeeps vs. Toyotas re.: quality??
-
I base my car purchases on the paintjob and how cute the antenna ball is. :-P
-
Watch out for that six speed manual, there are bad reports about them over here - a friend has gone through two already in his jeep.

That's a *mini* SUV?!?! Sorry but nobody in an urban area needs a car that big. And I'd hate to see how big the full size ones are!

Isn't that because non-European people usually can't drive stick?
-
Well, I'm non European, and I drive a stick shifter pretty well. I'm also not impressed with trucks for personal/personnel city transport. Hardly an elegant solution.

Think of the high fuel costs that would stop you buying that PowerUP card you always dreamt of...
Better get a SMART car!

Aussies like us Brits, are fantastic drivers.... Afterall, we are amongst the few nations that still drive on the PROPER side of the road. :-) :-) :-D

Whoah, one of these dawgs?

It's a really good looking car, although not quite my style. :) I'm more of a "rally person" (being a codriver and everything), so I swing towards "very manual" cars, if you see what I mean. Clutch, stick shift, differentials, no TCS, ABS or any of that fancy-schmancy stuff :)
I'm getting a new car this summer too. But as a family man, I probably have to go for something like an Audi Quattro, maybe the turbocharged A3. That baby sure can do some sideways tight turns, too.
But to stay on subject, I'd probably go for the CD32. No keyboard or mouse, just a couple of pads you can stick in the seat pocket.

No, it's just the new 6 speed manuals are crap.
I think you'll find that most people in Australia can drive a manual and do it well.
-
Bleh that thing is a compact compared to the Cadillac Escalades jacked up full size monster trucks people have in my area. Now this is what I would be expect people to be driving around our town soon (BTW I can drive a manual like it was a toy car)

How do you drive on the "proper" side of the road, when the first "automatic wagon" was created here? ;-)
-
can we say GAS GUZZLER

Rubbish. The first gasoline-powered automobile was created by Karl Benz in Germany in 1885. An American is not credited for creating an automobile until George Selden in 1886.
[EDIT]Corrected the date which made me look somewhat foolish [/EDIT]

Yes, and we Saffers !!
By the way, the perfect accessory for an Amiga is a girl with a good sense of humour and good massage technique, to relieve the tension after playing UFO for a day.

I was going to mention a woman, but in all honesty, a bar fridge chock full of you favourite beer is a much better Amiga accessory.

Yup, but the first "automobile" created for the "mass-market", was the Model T. It should also be pointed out that Americans had the first "public roadways" for automobiles. ;P I think we refer to those as "Freeways" and "highways" now. :-P
-
Well now that the Germans own Chrysler they make much better cars!!
:-)..

@justthatgood
Considering I work near the International plant that produces those trucks, I see them on the road here all the time.
@Methuselas
Remember, drive on the parkway, park in the driveway.

Wow! I had no idea that my little message would create so many responses. Guess it figures since most of the Amiga fans here are of the male persuasion and any mention of cars will bring out the stories, comparisons, put downs, jokes and such.
My wife and I just had a great laugh reading all of your replies, so thank you very much.
I will also investigate the reported problems with the 6 speed manual transmission. Yes, it is the same transmission and engine that is used in the Liberty made by Jeep, and the plant that makes the Nitro used to make the Jeep Wrangler.
As for the size not being a mini SUV, I would have to agree that I mis-spoke and would consider it more of a mid-size SUV. It is definitely much smaller than my Toyota Sequoia.
I have not made up my mind to sell the Sequoia and replace it with another Nitro, but I am very tempted by the features, the price and mostly the fun factor. It isn't the gas mileage, as I am currently getting almost 17mpg in the Sequoia and I doubt that the Dodge is going to average much better than 18 to 19 in combined city/highway driving.
To answer one reply talking down to people that drive trucks in urban areas, I live at 6,300 feet above sea level, in the mountains of Southern California. This small resort town has more dirt roads surrounding it than there are paved roads within it, so I would hardly call it an urban area, and the Nitro is more car like than it is truck like. We had about 5 inches of new snow the last two nights and yesterday, so I got to test the 4wd and can report that it works very well.
