Title: Modded cs-ppc , socketed oscillators on small "pcb"
Post by: keropi on February 21, 2007, 06:05:28 PM
I have sent my 200mhz csppc to JJB to upgrade the 060 with the newer mask one, and make a little mod to allow easy oscillator changes... I had the idea to put the oscs on the back side, and JJB made a small "pcb" that allows them to be socketed! I have clocked at 64mhz the 060...

50mhz -> cpu ~65 mips , ~fpu 25 mflops
64mhz -> cpu ~85 mips , ~fpu 34 mflops

sorry for the crap pic, I only have here a Nokia6680 , but you can get the idea....

Nice going keropi!

But do you manage to keep everythings stable on 64Mhz ?
And my interest goes to the scsi bus in specific, does it not start to hang ?

I am not using scsi on that amiga, I cannot really tell...

Having a precious CSPPC and not using its wonderful scsi chip must be a sin... you'll burn in hell! :lol:

I had JJB socket my CSPPC earlier this year too. Mine was also clocked to 64MHz and SCSI still works great! :-)
Anyway JJ does stability checks at the time of upgrade so I'm sure would let u know if any problems were encountered.

there are some probs with zorro cards on 64mhz.... I need a 60,hz osc to do more testing...

As I have not really tried anythign faster that 060@50MHz on everyday Amiga OS/Workbench usage, does that 60/64MHz feel much snappier and faster?

yes, it feels faster... it is a noticable speed increase, I believe 60mhz is a  very good solution
