which would you guys recommend PC or Mac notebook. For the price the PC hardware spec is far better, but i like MacOS x. i also like to emulate other retro consoles eg Playstation N64

If you like OSX, get a MacBook or MacBook Pro. You can run Windows apps in OSX using Parallels Desktop, or reboot to Windows XP using Bootcamp.

yeah i like macosx, i just wish apples hardware prices were competitive realtive to the specs. has anyone had experience with runnung windows on a mac laptop under paralells? how do the uae for mac compare to winuae?
-
Hi,
I think it is also important what emulator software
can you run with your os. Currently the best amiga
emulator I know, is still winuae, so that I would
like to recommend. Still has the best support behind it
(I mean that new version appears very often.)
So I would go for a PC notebook but to be fair
I do not really know the mac world very much.
Regards,
Tamas

Mac UAE doesn't come even close to WinUAE. So if you get a Mac, you are pretty much forced to use Parallels + WinUAE anyway (or alternatively bootcamp, but that's a bit boring if you got Mac in the first place...).
@tvandor
WinUAE doesn't rule out Mac.

If you're fed up with Windows and like OSX, Parallels provides the best of two worlds. You can run Windows apps at near native speed, and if using Coherence, you even share the same desktop. When running other stuff, you don't have to put up with that ancient MS stuff anylonger.
Can't say much about WinUAE performance since I'm not a regular user of that program, however the virtual x86 runs at near native speed since it uses modern virtualization technology.

Actually, MacUAE + HiToro kicks booty. You just need the right settings :)
Also, the latest version of MacUAE + HiToro has a '060 option. AFAIK WinUAE doesn't have that.
I could be using an old version of WinUAE though (i've got multiple machines ;) )
Also, MacUAE runs VERY nice on my bog standard entry-level MacBook. Yes, that's the one with 512 megs of RAM!

You could get a compatible PC notebook (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) and install MacOSX on it.

As a lover of MacOS X... I would say MacUAE (+HiTorro) is still some way behind WinUAE. It's not far off... but it's certainly not as polished or stable (though I've only had one crash)... provided you use the Universal binaries of HiTorro and UAE.

060 option doesn't work and caused my crash.. see above :-)

@SteveSMS
Seriously now. MacUAE doesn't come even close. WinUAE is easily the most configurable, most comfortable and easy to use UAE around.

Make060 (http://aminet.net/package/util/sys/Make060)
that's the one with 512 megs of RAM!
UAE isn't that memory hungry anyway.

I wan't to second Piru here, A Mac laptop will run either MacUAE and WinUAE... depending upon preference.
