Title: Deskjet 500 and Amiga 3.1
Post by: pan1k on February 17, 2007, 12:47:00 AM
Hey guys I got a deskjet 500 for free, and i tried printing from finalwriter. It printed out in the right font, but the spacing was all off. Is there a correct way to add a printer to an amiga? I looked in Prefs but i'm confused by all the options in printer prefs.

I would track down Turboprint 7.6 from Irseesoft. The thought of running Workbench printer drivers fills me with the bad kind of nostalgia...

:-D

Just make sure you have the correct printer driver installed. OS 3.5 and OS 3.9 do a much job of printing - yet another reason to upgrade. They have excellent HP support too.
I don't like Turboprint. Studio Professional II by Wolfe Faust worked better for printing needs. You may be able to find some of his printer drivers for the HP 500.
I used an HP Deskjet 500 for years with very good results from Final Writer 97, Pagestream, and a multitude of other software.
Good luck.

Wolfe Faust, didn't he program the Canon Studio for bubblejets? That was a good program but nowhere near as comprehensive as Turboprint and it's Graphics Publisher.

If you want drivers for relatively new photo printers Turboprint 7.60 is probably the best there is, it's also allegedly available for MorphOS.

You will find the driver for your printer on the Storage disk or you can download one from Aminet.

Just copy the driver over and put it in your devs:printers drawer and select it in the printer prefs.
