I have what appears to be a rare late edition of the Multistart II. It has 3 ROM sockets on it! It also does not have the ribbon cable to plug into ROM socket, the board itself installes in the socket. But the instructions I have is for the two ROM version. This one has extra sets of jumpers and I want to know how to configure it before I try to install it. Anyone have these instructions?
-
The board you have is either an earlier Multistart (not a II) or made by another manufacturer. I have a couple of these and they work just like the Multistart II basically. I never figured out how to use the third rom socket or what the jumpers were for. Just remember Dave Haynie's advice about jumpers if you don't know what they're for.
Try BBoAH for info on these boards.

Believe him, it's a MultiStart II:

Perhaps it's not so rare - my Megachip2 manual has an ad for Multistart II which mentions it has room for a third ROM - even when it was meant just for 1.3/2.0 switching.
-
OK I see a manual there! Can you help me out??!?! I need to know how to use this thing!!!
-
Sorry, I don't have the manual. :( It would be published in the Amiga Hardware Database otherwise. All I know that it needs not only setting jumpers, but attaching a clip to one of Gary's pins (don't know which pin). Here's another photo of the 3 ROM version, try to copy its jumper settings: (http://amiga.resource.cx/tmp/multistart2-2.jpg)

This may be helpful too:

Thought that I'd bring this thread back from the dead!
Has anyone ever found a reference for how to properly configure all of the jumpers on the MultiStart II board?
I'm having some problems getting my KS1.3 to boot and would like to confirm that I've got the MultiStart II board setup correctly.

Is there really no one out there who has the jumper information for the MulitStart II?
-
on the bottom right side of the board. the default setting for the 2000 should be the bottom two pins- see figure 1 on page 10
page two, paragraph 4

Thank you for the reply. However, I don't have a manual. I got the MultiStart 2 with a used A2000 that I purchased. It has two kickstart ROMs installed but no matter what I've tried I cant seem to get (what I think is) the 1.3 ROM in the first socket to boot. The 2.04 ROM in the middle socket boots up fine.

No Manual, whose's is that in the pic?
Oh, well...there are other threads- see (which pin on gary for dkb multistart ii)
with all the info.

I think the manual is the property of Lex. (Hopefully Lex will see this and share his information)
I've looked at all of the other threads that I can find here. I am actually the one who started the "which pin on gary for dkb multistart ii" thread. The problem is that none of the threads explain what all of the jumpers do and how to set them for various configurations.
Apparently there were also a couple of different versions of the MultiStart II board. Some had a ribbon cable and others had pins that plug directly into the ROM socket so that the board actually sits just above the ROM socket.
Mine does not have the ribbon cable and has three different jumpers on the board.
When looking at the board with the wire for the Gary chip in the upper right corner.
1. A two position jumper (three pins) - Located just to the right of the 74HC74 on the top of the board. I believe that this is the one that is set depending on the machine type.
2. A two position jumper (three pins) - located to the right of the right most ROM socket and towards the bottom of the board. I believe this might select the default boot ROM.
3. A single position jumper (two pins) - Also located to the right of the right most ROM socket and towards the top of the board. Don't have a clue what this one does.

Hi AmigaEd,
I noticed this thread and I made a high-resolution scan of my MultiStart II manual in its entirety for you (and anyone that needs it).
http://moparx.com/files/amiga/DKB_MultiStart_II_Manual.zip (http://moparx.com/files/amiga/DKB_MultiStart_II_Manual.zip) (14.6MB)

Send it to the largest database:

Good idea. I sent my link to Amiga Manuals and the Amiga Hardware Database.

@ Moparx
Thank you very much for making the scan of the manual and making it available to myself and other MulitStart II users. I have downloaded it and will keep it on hand should others need it. The manual has already help clear up for me how this thing is really supposed to work. Now, maybe I can finally get my second ROM working in this A2000.
Again Thank You and Best Regards,
AmigaEd
P.S. Also a shout out and Thank You to all of the others who contributed to this thread!

@moprax
Thanks. How do you do this? So many users buy old hard/software without manuals and ask for help.
@amigaed
sorry, didn't help better but wasn't it nice of moprax to do manual

Or you could have just downloaded it from http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/amiga/hardware/MegAChip_500_2000_Installation_and_Users_Guide.pdf
Same exact version (20 pages) 2.4MB pdf. It has been online since 11 March 2009 according to the file system date.
Enjoy

Hi,
The manuals for the MegAChip Ram Expansion board and the MultiStart II Kickstart Rom Expansion board do not share the same instructions (aside from page 3 "Disassembling your Amiga").
-
Yikes. I guess I was still asleep this when I posted that.
Definately two different things.
I added a pdf version of your images.
Multistart II - http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/amiga/hardware/DKB_Multistart_II_Manual.pdf
MegaChip - http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/amiga/hardware/DKB_MegAChip_500_2000_Installation_and_Users_Guide.pdf
thanks for pointing out my mistake.
