hi just need to know is it possible to install workbench onto an ide hd then connect it to a pc transfer what files i need then reattach to my a1200?
-
Yes it's possible but depends what type of HDD you've got.
If you're using a 3.5" HDD in your A1200 already then you can just plug it into a normal IDE channel and access it using WinUAE. Google for a guide on how-to do this but it isn't too difficult. Just don't activate the drive in windows because it'll fark up the existing setup.
If you've got a 2.5" HDD such as one from a laptop then you'll need a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter from ebay like this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2-5-to-3-5-IDE-Hard-Disk-Drive-Adapter_W0QQitemZ110089552842QQihZ001QQcategoryZ41993QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)... looks a bit crap but then mine is similar, anyway thats the "kinda" thing you'll be wanting. It just allows you to plug the 2.5" drive into the £.5" connector + molex power plug. Once again you access it via WinUAE without activating it in windows.

-
When i have transfered all the files that i need and i put the hdd back into my miggy how do i install a cd-rom ? (the files im tranfering are idefix 97 lha,run and amicdfs).
-
You can't really "install" a CD in a 1200, unless its in a tower or you hack a laptop CD into it.
There are two ways, the SquirrelScsi and the SCSI kit for the Blizzard accelerators.
-
And you could read the docs from AmiCDFS before you ask?
-
Just edit the line who calls the WinUAE.exe and add the following:
-disableharddrivesafetycheck
The link to WinUAE will look this way:
WinUAE -disableharddrivesafetycheck
Then, when starts, put your hd in the starts and backup your files at will. :-D
