Title: Just to make sure....
Post by: WarPiper on June 05, 2003, 06:25:41 PM
not to seem think headed, but.......

I have read the thread about the Amiga Inc losing the Amiga name, does that mean that Amiga Inc., as a company is now dead?

So fleecy moss, Bill MacEwing (cant think of how to spell his name), the people that once worked for Gateway then bought Amiga from them, are now out of the picture completely?

Sorry if I seem a little lost, but I really know nothing about copy right trademarks, corporate law and all that crap.If so then why not open source the amiga OS?

If so then why not open source the amiga OS?

No it doesn't mean that at all.

So it could proceed as, say, AWeb does?

Better just kill it. Open sourcing would have just the same effect, albeit far less glamourously.

People, keep it nice now !

No it doesn't mean that at all.

And even if it did, Amiga OS would not become opensource because Hyperion has a pretty good deal and it was said by several previous owners that the legal situation of some OS components won't allow the OS to be open source.. IIRC that is ;-)

You think that is being nasty? Answering the question?

ROFLMAO!

Here it is in fluffy mode:

"Oh I do hope you don't take this the wrong way but in answer to your EXCELLENT question which was so delicately put and SO well researched I'm afraid no, it does not mean that at all. If Amiga Inc went breasts up they would have to file for bankruptcy for which public notice would be available in the state they are incorporated. It also does not imply any loss of control over the Amiga trademark or that the work "Amiga" when used in connection with computing equipment remains un-trademarked given there are several other ACTIVE status trademark Amiga instances ( for companies that do not formally exist any more - so much for the database accuracy ). So Im afraid, and I DO hope you do not feel let down in any way whatsoever by this answer, and that you are sitting on a VERY comfy sofa when reading it, that DaveP above is quite right, that this on its own is not conclusive proof of diddly squat. Oh no did I use the word squat? I meant crouch."

Yrs. Ms Fluffy

@Warpiper

Not it doesnt mean that, it means they let the trademark name expire for whatever reason. Many would speculate incompetance. I am not speculating.

Well not publically.

Amiga Inc own the rights to the name Amiga Inc.  They can keep going as this.  Also, they own the rights to the Amiga name in europe (what BBRV is trying to get will only apply to the US IIRC).

Also, Hyperion own the rights to the name AmigaOS, which means that's safe aswell.

If anyone bought the name Amiga (the one that's been abandoned in the US) they will be able to produce software and call it Amiga whatever.

Amiga Inc, AmigaOS and AmigaOne are all safe.  Well, they are in Europe nyway ;-)

You think Bill could play foosball?!  I don't think he could play snakes and ladders! :-P

I don't think that anyone ever doubted that A inc had lost the rights to "AmogaOS" :-D

Thats put a really comical image in my mind of Fleecy and BillMc as drunkards in string vests. Swigging beer and eating kebabs and playing games. And when the landlord comes knocking on the door they turn the music up and ignore him.

Just a joke. You know I don't believe this to be the case. But it is funny as heck.
