It can be run without 3.1 ROMs, but that may be illegal.

Plus, one re-kick is already one too many!

For OS3.5, you need Kickstart 3.1 (or better), 68020+, and 2Mb of RAM. Probably OS3.9 is the same, you might need perhaps slightly more RAM though, 3Mb or so should be enough I'd imagine.

You don't really need a CD-ROM or hard disk, but it's not much fun running it from floppy.

Hi,

You can't run OS3.9 from floppy!!!

Also, it's supplied on CD, so while you don't technically need a CD-ROM drive to install it, you at least need some way of getting it on to an Amiga hard drive.

To do it justice, you need a 68040 or 68060, 32Mb+ RAM and an RTG graphics card.

IMHO, you're better off sticking with 3.1 if you're on an '030 or less, and especially if you're using stock AGA or ECS graphics. A lot of enhancements to 3.1 can be made using free software from Aminet.

Well, not easily, but there's no reason why you couldn't really. Not on a single floppy but on several if you fooled around with the startup-sequence it should be possible.

You could even run it from RAD:, I would imagine.

OK, it might be technically possible to get it to run, but why would anyone want to do that??!

OS3.1 was the last designed to run from floppies as well as the HDD. In any case, running any version of AmigaOS from floppy is a pain and a bit impractical to do anything serious with.

Also, OS3.5 and 3.9 have become quite a bit larger than the almost minimalist stock 3.1 installation. You'd be looking at quite a few floppies!!!

AMC258: you can do it with single "re-kick" by extracting the setpatch updates from 3.9 and kicking them in with your kicking software. Then you can disable the useless setpatch reboot.

In anut shell, get yourself a fourway buffered interface, from amigakit.com, they selling on the eyetech stuff.

An 030 accelerator, 3-4 meg of fast ram, min.

A cdrom, kick 3.1 and your flying.

If iwas you though, i`d go for a g rex, or a mediator, gives you the option to upgrade to ppc.
