Title: Little niggles
Post by: wurzel on February 04, 2007, 07:37:39 PM
Hi,

I've just built a Power Tower with Mediator, Voodoo & Blizzard 060 and transferred all the software & data from my Desktop. All went well until I tried to fit a SCSI hard drive inside the tower, which was in an external box & fitted to the desktop.I used it as a backup & thought it would work in the tower.

Well, that's when my troubles began; I lost all the data on the 40gb hard drive I'd installed. Fortunately, I had another backup but lost 2 weeks worth of work. To make it worse, the scsi drive now doesn't seem to work :(

The little niggles I now have proble,ms with are:

I cannot copy files by dragging icons.
AMplifier won't load.
I cannot get BoingBag1 to install over 3.9.
A couple of other things.

Using snoopdos, a commom factor seems to be "cannot find speedbar.gadget." I've looked  in Classes and it's there, the same version as was in my desktop. Also, resouce.library is a problem but that's there as well.

Have you any ideas what's going wrong? I'm so pleased with the tower otherwise, IBrowse, IFX & PGS run MUCH faster & in full colour ;)

Cheers for any suggestions

Did you install 3.9 using an Emergency Disk?

Well, I think I did. I used the OS3.9 disk, then BB1 & BB2 over that. I used a floppy in the drive as well.

I'm trying to install OS3.9, BB1 & 2 on a separate directory, just to check it all. However, BB1 fails because of the speedgadet again :(

It's frustrating :madashell:

sounds like your classes are hosed.  you didn't install ClassAct at any point, did you?  If so, you may be better off doing a fresh install of 3.9...  ClassAct won't work at all with OS3.9.  Reaction supercedes it.  You might look in the Classes directory and make sure no libraries are in the there and/or check the file sizes and versions against the class files in the WB3.9 directory of the 3.9 CD.

Heh! I had a similar problem recently... Was "experimenting" installing old software from some good old Amiga Format CDs on to my A3K/OS3.9, and some of the installation routines there kindly splattered some of the Reaction classes with older ClassAct ones! Took me a while to sort out the mess!

I think next time, I'll do a "test run" in WinUAE rather than potentially cripple my real A3K!

It sounds as if you were right!

I copied over all the Classes from th 3.9 CD, rebooted and then everything worked! I was able to install BB1 & 2, and load Amolifier & alter Prefs ;)

After that, I installed BB1 & 2, then copied over the Classes to bring them up to date, crossed my fingers & rebooted .....

All is now fine ;)

Not quite sure what went wrong, but now everything is fine (so far!)

Thanks.
