Hi!
Don't know if this is a crazy question or not
Can Mac OS X be installed on a WintelPC without problems or do you have to buy a Mac and have more clutter and boxes everywhere?
Reason I ask is I have WinXP, Linux and of course WinUAE installed on the same machine. My old Amiga 1200 Tower is sitting next to the PC smiling benignly as I type this. Well, it feels like it is.

Of course you can go to osx86.com to see about it, right now im posting from my intel 945 dual core pentium 4 2.8 "MAC". Im using only osx on my pc from 6 months now and i even can use my geforce 7600 card whitout any problem driving dual displays, even i sell my mac mini :D.
Of course im using the most compatible hardware out there, you have to look around if your hardware could be used.

It has been done (don't think it's legal!), but I think there are many problems involving drivers etc. You could get a Mac Mini and run Parellels with all your operating systems.

I agree that it can be done... however it is absolutely illegal. Additionally, there are several driver issues and compatibility problems (isn't that why we are not running Windows?)
Get a real Mac. You will not be sorry. I picked up an old G4 Quicksilver and have modified it so it is about as fast as my 3.2 gHz PC. It is my favorite machine. So much that I recently wanted a laptop and got a MacBook.
The Mac is as close to what Amiga SHOULD be today. And there is a very friendly user community.

If it's OSX you want to run (and why shouldn't you? ;-)) I agree with the statement of getting a decent IntelMAC. No issues on the OS side of things and, with BootCAMP, legal installation of WindowsXP (don't know about Vista) is still possible. And Linuxes should be no problem either. What might be a reason not to do it is 3D performance. But then.... Guess the ATI and nVidia options in the different iMacs should be good enought.

No it's not. It's in breach of the EULA, but that agreement is not legally binding. As long as you have a license for the software and don't install more copies than you have licenses, then you are not breaking any law by installing it on non-Apple equipment.

No it's not. It's in breach of the EULA, but that agreement is not legally binding. As long as you have a license for the software and don't install more copies than you have licenses, then you are not breaking any law by installing it on non-Apple equipment.
Right! I thought it was illegal to run OSX on non Apple hardware!

Yes indeed, I use a G5 iMac and it is fantastic to use, the OS is very good, easy to use, polished and professional. It's everything I had hoped Amiga OS would evolve into, we are so far behind in many respects!

Well... yes and no.
I tried running MacOSX on my PC about 6 months ago. It did OK, but never survived a software update. Probably due to the fact that I ran a patched version for AMD processors.
I recommend using a real Mac for the best experience. How about a Mac Mini? They're affordable and take almost no space.
I bought a real Mac and threw my PC out. I have no need for neither Windows nor Linux anymore.

Couldn't agree more, it's a shame we have been left so far behind!
Having said that Amiga OS4 fills in some of the gaps but we need more developers producing slick applications, even basics like a good modern WP or office suite, a browser with all modern day requirements for starters.
Then of course other eye candy and "would like to have" applications could follow later, but they are not going to come about being written by lone bedroom coders are they?
And there is a very friendly user community
Yes, I have been running an Amiga usergroup SEAL (http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk) since 1998 and many of us had Macs too, so with the decline of Amigans left on the scene we decided to go dual format and we now have Amigans and Apple Mac users and a dedicated Mac (http://www.seal-apple.co.uk) version of our website.
I have met and spoken to quite a few Mac users who are EX Amigans (some people can't wait around forever for Amiga OS to get back to being something that has been promised to us faithfuls) or people who used PC's running Windows and got fed up with all it's problems (viiruses, spyware, locking up etc.) and they are all pretty savvy and friendly.
There are many freeware and shareware programs available these days for Mac users, just look here (http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/) and it gives you an idea!

Had enough probz reinstalling XP several times!
Maybe a real Mac is the way to go!
