-

Glad to see all that didn't make it's way into the trash bin like so many floppies have.
What is it with old floppies and long lifespans? Ive got piles of amiga discs pushing 20 years and they still work just fine. I buy a box of floppies from staples and they go bad after a few months.

Indeedy!
A registered version of MUI if I'm not mistaken. Amongst lots of other goodies.
Nice buy.

@koaftder:
Back in the day, 3.5" floppies were the state of the art in removable media. (We called 'em "stiffies" 'cause they weren't as floppy as the 5" ones.) They were the good ones, made by the good companies (for the most part -- anyone remember the Tan Floppy Fiasco?).
Nowadays, they're fading away, and don't get the same attention to quality. I don't recommend magnetic media at all any more; too many failures these days.
I sure hope I have your luck with my old Amiga floppies; I have close to a hundred to check out.

Are floppy disks still manufactured? Or are companies now just selling off the old stock that's in the various distribution systems and warehouses?
Floppy disk quality has been pretty poor for the last 5+ years... I remember when (oh dear, sounding old!) Tandy in the UK used to sell boxes of 10 single sided DD disks for more than £43!!! I think anyone would have cried if a read/write error was found on one of those!!!

Found something that partially answers my own question (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6314251.stm)...

Very true. Has anyone noticed the same phenomena with CDs? I have 20+ year old CDs that are scratched to ribbons, yet still play flawlessly. New CDs and especially DVDs, on the other hand, need to be handled with surgical gloves or they totally f*ck up.

In 1976 the disk shrank to five-and-a-quarter inches - developed again by Alan Shugart, this time for Wang Laboratories.
Haha... Wang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=wang&go=Go) Laboratories!

Could be worse! Would you want to be a Wayne Kerr (http://www.waynekerrusa.com/) employee?!

Or just Wayne Kerr? haha.. I bet he can fight!

I went through a stage of throwing amiga floppies away as they were literally numbering in the hundreds of thousands! :-(
