Title: Missing 'Workbench' Icon after IDEFix
Post by: Jaruzel on June 04, 2003, 10:19:38 AM
Ok, I'm testing the hardware build of my A1200D (more on that later) , and in order to checkout the Buffered IDE card and the CD-ROM, I threw a quick 'novice' install of Workbench 3 onto a 4 Gig drive.

All worked fine, giving me a 'Workbench' Icon and a 'Work' Icon.

I then put IDEFix97 on, to check out the CD-ROM, after a reboot, my Workbench Icon is missing. The CD-ROM works fine however. The Work Icon is OK also.

Getting to the CLI  the default starting dir is 'úóbench:  (or something, odd characters anyway).

So, any ideas why my Workbench Icon disappeared?

Force removing IDEFix fixes the problem.

Actually thinking about it... Would it be something to do with the CD-ROM being the slave on the main IDE channel, and the HDD having 2 partitions? Maybe IDEfix doesn't like that set up?

IDEfix does like everything. It is the most compatible software I ever saw. You may even remove the master and run the slave alone, which is forbidden in IDE specs. And of course having multiple partitions on multiple hdds is normal operation.

There must be something wrong with your setup. Do you have the latest version of IDEfix ? Did you check the cables ?

Does the Workbench partition work again if you remove IDEfix ?

Did you try hdd + cd-rom without the IDEfix software ?

Did you try hdd without cd-rom but with the IDEfix software ?

Did you check the IDEfix prefs program ? Perhaps your 4-way adapter is not recognized properly. Change the setting from Auto to your type of adapter.

Just for driving the cd-rom drive, you don't need the IDEfix software. Remove the section from startup-sequence. You only need atapi.device and CacheCDFS for running the cd-rom drive.

Bye,
Thomas

I have an XP machine that runs off a slave on the first channel with no other devices.
