Troy Hurtubise's "trojan suit" (http://www.videosift.com/video/Troy-Hurtubise-II-Project-Grizzly-Goes-To-War) claims to be able to protect against IED explosions, knives, clubs, bullets etc.
I wonder if it could protect his countrymen in oooh, let's say Afghanistan, against, well, you know, allies accidentally bombing the wrong target? ;-)
-
I doubt it would protect him, no matter who bombed him.
-
There are some comical videos of his previous suits being tested :-D
-
The bear spray made me laugh, as well as the crotch-mounted watch
-
In the videos of his bear suit tests, he gets set upon by groups of people with baseball bats, has logs suspended on ropes swung into him, rolls down escarpments and god knows what.
Assuming this suit is as strong as those, at least it would be good for coping with people trying to beat / mutilate you.
Not sure about the explosive charge case though but the material is alleged to be able to withstand an elephant gun.

There is another forum that I visit, where they release results of ballistic armour testing. To defeat a rifle projectile even as small as a .223, you need a ballistic panel that is quite dense. One of the designs they have is a panel composed of three layers of ceramic discs overlapping one another. A 10x12 inch panel like that weighs 6 lbs and is almost an inch thick. Metal panels that can defeat the same projectiles are about 10 lbs in weight and one inch thick.
Now you have to ask yourself a question: is he wearing armour that is one inch thick, and if so, what steroids is he taking to carry all that weight?
It seems very doubtful to me.
If he needs to defeat more dangerous projectiles, he will need even thicker armour. The panels I mentioned above are only good for a limited number of hits from standard ammunition fired from AK-47s and similar rifles.

Well, he does wrestle grizzly bears for kicks
It has to be said, it looks a bit like too-much-gaming-syndrome to me ;-)

That's the armour you needed to avoid getting fragged by Blobzie...

I don't think it would offer the slightest protection against a genuine railgun (http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/18/navy-develops-8-megajoule-railgun-nukem-bows-down/)

There was an article where a guy made a home-made coil gun that was putting out very good velocities. I will see if I can find that.
-
I've seen bad things done with a barrel made of solenoids before ;-)
-
I think that was the principle.
-
Getting back to it, assuming the suit could (or could be made to) withstand a moderate degree of punishment from small arms fire, I wonder what the psychological effect would be on your average "insurgent" type, seeing someone straight out of Halo walking towards them, seemingly unfazed by your shots?
In "Fallen Dragon", Peter F Hamilton describes a form of biomechanical body armour he calls "Skin" that makes the wearer virtually involate to all forms of conventional attack, as well as augmenting their strength and endurance. Troy would love it :-D

I think Troy secretly wants to be part of the Borg collective.

But at the end of the day, this girl here will poon him:

Of course, I can also reload a revolver like that.

Do any anti-tank guns work using explosively formed projectiles? They're fairly unstoppable.
Amazingly, 6 inches of plasticine will stop a slug from a .44 Magnum. No doubt there are smarter Chobum armour style ways to stop a bullet than a slab of steel.
All you need is a tinfoil hat and a little love.
