There is a thread on amiga.org stating that people are tired of waiting for OS4. Take heart, the windoze market is just as bad if not worse.
I have been waiting for a product called XP-Lite, which strips unwanted crap from Windoze XP, for more than a year.
The last update on the website, dated May 2002, stated "When will it be finished? We cant say right now - when its done - but were talking weeks/months not years." (Don't they know 12 months IS A £$%&ING YEAR?)
This was about the time Amithlon2 was announced. I was going to purchase both of these, yet neither is available for one reason or another. To be fair, I know Amithlon is bogged down in a legal quagmire, but what came of the online poll to get it released?
In times past it often seemed developers would release any shoddy product just to get our money. Now we seem to wait an eternity for anything.
If only there were a third way....

As I see it you've got at least three alternatives.
1) Go with a free UN*X/Linux, my suggestion is NetBSD.
2) Get a mac and use MacOS X
3) Wait and see if we'll see a new BeOS or not.
I go with 1 since I can't afford 2.

Online polls alone were never likely to release amithlon 2 from the legal quagmire.

What unwanted crap from XP?
Everything XP ships with is important and integral to the OS.
With SP1 onwards you can effectively disable MSN, IE, Outlook Express...
I can't think of any other components you'd want to remove ?
