Hi. My scanner is a UMAX Astra 2000U. Since I upgraded from Win98 to 2K I haven't been able to use it since the drivers for 2k/XP are comercial!!! They don't seem to be available around the net. Haven't tryed P2P but that's risky in terms of trojans and the like...
So I though about using my Amigas to do the scanning:)
Hence I have a few questions..
1- Wich one is the best regardin to drivers ?
2- "" functionality ?
3- "" future prospects (coninued development) ?
4- Supported platforms (AmigaOS4, MorphOS) ?
Maybe I should simply install linux once and for all but I don't feel like learning yet another OS...
Cheers

Ok, forget it, done a bit more of research and my scanner is not supported on either package...
Maybe someone has tried it ?

I have a UMAX Astra 1200S and it works great. Is yours a SCSI scanner? It may work if it is.

I too have a 1200S, and ScanQuix, and it works absolutely great! In fact, it works far far better than the Windoze AND Mac equivalents! The only problem I ever had was that I found out for the first time I had an old SCSI chip when I would scan in color and get scrambled colors.
The 1200U was USB, so I assume the 2000U is USB. I recently ordered my first Amiga USB interface from Software Hut and haven't recieved it yet, so I can't comment on that...

Only a few USB-drivers exist for ScanQuix: http://www.scanquix.de/usb_e.html
You could try Astra 5400U driver, but I would not expect too much.
AFAIK ScanQuix is the only package supporting USB scanners, BetaScan (the other driver-package fxScan supports) only works with SCSI models.

Yes, it's an USB one, wich would be a good excuse to get a USB card for my Amiga:)
I've done some more search and there seems to be good working drivers on the SANE page (Linux driver package from wich most BetaScan ones are ported) but they're in beta stage (on the CVS).
BTW, is it simply that Betascan doesn's have drivers for USB scanners ported yet, or it needs an update to support USB?
