I finally have 3.9 installed with the latest BoingBag on my 3000. For the most part it runs nice and fast... HOWEVER it has this strange random crashing issue. I'll be doing something, doesn't really matter what, although maybe happens more when copying or installing something, and it will crash to either the red 'Fault' error, or yellow 'Recoverable' error screen. I heard from somewhere it could have something to do with the ROM update that the OS runs when you boot the computer. What exactly does that do anyways, and is it safe to keep it from running on startup?

did you install boing bag 1 and 2 in order. Unlike windows you need to install both, not just the latest. Also make sure you have the latest cpu and hardware drivers if you have any addons.
-
Well.. maybe you can help me out. I did run the updates in order (1 and then 2). I have a Mercury '040 card, but i'm using just the '040 library that comes with 3.9. I haven't installed any additional software for it. I also have a GVP Spectrum card i'm using with Cybergfx v4. Anything else I should have loaded?

I prefer picasso 96, and depending on which spectrum card you have, the 110 will only run with egs software, I think. You should use the mecury drivers here for cpu:

I have the Mercury install disk, but I wasn't sure if I should use it since it was originally for an older OS version. Also, its a Spectrum 24, so i'm pretty sure it would work with Picasso, but I was told CyberGFX was better? Who knows.

I prefer picasso and to me it appears to be faster.

it could be anything really, from lose/damaged cables, low psu output to bad RAM. Overheating too..... If I had to start looking at it though, I'd start with what patches I have at startup.
-
I'll check everything, but do you think its OK to use the original install disk that came with my '040 card in 3.9? Will that mess anything up?

yes
